VIDEO: Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport is for “rebels”

Having made an appearance at the 2015 LA Auto Show just a day ago, and already a video of the track-only Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport – based on the Cayman GT4 – has emerged. The video is entitled “Rebels race harder,” and it sees the driver taking the racer round an indoor track.

The Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport is built for newcomers to the racetrack. While that may be the case, Porsche will be homologating the racer for a number of global racing series. This includes the Pirelli World Challenge, the Continental Tyre Sports Car Challenge, Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy in the USA, the Ultra 94 GT3 Cup Challenge in Canada and club racing by the Porsche Club of America.

Weighing in at 1,300 kg (40 kg lighter than the Cayman GT4) In the mid-rear section of the car, sits a 385 hp 3.8 litre flat-six engine, adopted from the standard Cayman GT4. It’s paired with a modified PDK six-speed transmission. It also features a race-specific mechanical rear differential lock.

Adopting lightweight suspensions from the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, it also gets large 380 mm steel brakes with six-piston aluminium fixed calipers in front a four-piston calipers at the rear. While the wheels are 18-inch five-hole rims, wrapped in Michelin racing slicks. In addition, it features ABS with 12 settings and a reprogrammed ESP.

Inside, the trackster comes with paddle shifters on the steering, a rollcage, a racing bucket seat and a six-point harness along with a 12V/70Ah battery in the passenger compartment. A 70-litre fuel tank or an optional 100-litre FIA FT3 safety fuel tank can be specified.

Available for purchase through Porsche Motorsport in Weissach, Germany or Porsche Motorsport North America, it is priced at USD$165,000 (RM715,350). As a reference, the standard Porsche Cayman GT4 in Malaysia costs RM840,000 OTR sans registration fees, road tax, and insurance.
