The interior of the impending Alfa Romeo SUV, supposedly dubbed the Typo 949, has been glimpsed in a photo posted by Ralph Gilles, head of design at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA). Uploaded on Gilles’ Instagram account to usher in the new year, the photo shows a cabin with a familiar design style in common with the Giulia.
This isn’t surprising, since it is Alfa Romeo’s stated intention to maximise the number of vehicles utilising the Giulia platform. In his post, Gilles also paid tribute to Lorenzo Ramaciotti, the man in the picture and his predecessor as head of FCAdesign. Ramaciotti was responsible for the design of the Ferrari 550 Maranello and Maserati Quattroporte, as well as the Alfa Romeo 4c and Giulia.
The Alfa Romeo SUV is rumoured to debut sometime late this year, and will enter a market segment that includes the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC. Engine choices, as reported by autoevolution, are a two-litre turbo, the Giulia’s 2.9 litre twin-turbo V6 as well as a pair of diesels in 2.2 litre four-cylinder and 3.0 litre V6 configurations.
