More info on the upcoming 2016 Toyota Hilux. This time, it involves the official Malaysian brochure of the pick-up, which was sent to us by paultan.org reader Mohd Aizatenko.
With a local launch debut expected in Q2 of 2016, bookings for the Hilux are now open, with prices slated to start at the RM93,000 mark, according to estimated price list(s) obtained from dealers. The reveal of this brochure also helps us nail down some of the pick-up’s specifications found on the price list as well.
The new Hilux will be offered as a sole single cab variant – 2.4 MT 4×4 – and five double cab ones – 2.4 Standard MT 4×4, 2.4 MT 2×4, 2.4G MT 4×4, 2.4G AT 4×4 and 2.8G AT 4×4. It is already known that Toyota’s new GD turbodiesel engine line-up will feature here in 2.4 and 2.8 litre capacities. However, the brochure does reveal that the AT variants will benefit from Toyota’s new six-speed automatic transmission.

Other bits of info mentioned in the brochure include the Hilux’s revised ladder frame chassis, as well as the safety systems fitted. Only the top-spec 2.8G AT 4×4 and 2.4G AT 4×4 will receive Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Active Traction Control (A-TRC). However, only the former gets seven airbags, whereas the latter gets just three, the same as the other variants. Additionally, only the top-spec variant gets automatic LED projector headlamps (with LED DRLs).
For a detailed breakdown on the 2016 Toyota Hilux’s expected specifications, do check out our earlier report here. Does the new Hilux impress? What do you think of the variant offerings and their respective kit list? For those who want an early up-close look at the pick-up, check out the Toyota WOW Road Tour, where the Hilux will be previewed.

Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Finally! Welcome to the right decade, Toyota.
RV included in this pickup or have to buy it separately?
The price gonna be whopping high,
and pretty sure mid & lower spec not gonna have all those safety equipment except the ABS & 2 airbags
Nissan Navara got 7 speed auto, the new hilux nothing big deal with 6 speed auto.
What’s the point of so many speeds on a rugged pickup-truck? In fact the Navara isn’t tough enough to be one.
Navara is ladies pickup truck.
the omen looks good for the fortuner then….
7 airbags n brand new powertrain
Naik harga banyak. Spec tak banyak naik. Sorry bye bye hilux.
Spec tak banyak naik? Berapa banyak you mau?
Come on la toyota.upgrade suspension, rebuild gear lever 4 manual(tall like lorry).. Most important made it not fail roll over test.too often here hilux roll over.fail physic..
All will solve.
But for it to roll over, sorry – that is driver error. Even God cannot help that one.
Welcome to the new generation king of pick up trucks in Malaysia.
2.8G is definitely a good buy! Tons of orders coming in.
Just 3 airbags and no VSC or TC.
2.8G is coming with 7 airbags with VSC and TC.
If the safety is not standard across all variants, then the safety is just considered ‘optional’.
Thank goodness for euro5 diesel, otherwise old engines only
This is going to be the best 4×4 as it comes with rear diff lock
Mazda bt-50 came with locking rear diff and ESC since 2012.
cukur… wont mind to spend that money to buy the highest spec.
Great…finally the Hilux is good looking and at least one variant has full safety with ESC+7AB. And also good that 3 airbags are standard with ESP on the AT 2.4. But where are they fitting 3 airbags? Two front, one knee? Makes no sense as protecting side of the passengers is more important than knee of the driver…but still kudos to Toyota
It does look impressive but the price isn’t
7 airbags, it’s a miracle!
I’m waiting for the 1.9l isuzu dmax to come n change my old dmax.
