In a new video entitled #ParallelBarking, the Vauxhall Corsa SE is seen parallel parking itself with no human assistance. Gerty the Boxer is in the driver’s seat instead, looking pretty bewildered himself – perhaps at all the attention he’s getting on Wimbledon High Street, where the video was shot.
The clip aims to showcase the Advanced Park Assist technology, Vauxhall’s version of parallel park assist, which requires no human input. Similar to others, the function detects a parking space automatically and manoeuvres the vehicle into the slot.
According to the brand Gerty said, “people are often worried, even scared of parallel parking, especially if you’ve just passed your test and driving in a busy, built-up area. Through my acting debut in the Corsa with Advanced Park Assist, I’ve demonstrated how this technology can help you find a parking space and steer you into the spot. You’d be barking mad not to try it out.”
The Corsa SE comes with a 75 PS 1.4 litre ecoFlex engine mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. Said model is priced at £13,500 (RM76,515) in the UK, while the park assist feature can be had as an optional item for £8,995 (RM50,980). Other options include OnStar and the IntelliLink infotainment system.
