Tesla Model 3 rendered as next-generation Roadster

Tesla Model 3 Roadster Theo render

Currently, the world is rushing to get their pre-orders in for the new Tesla Model 3, which now stands at over 253,000 in just three days, according to the Independent. That’s a lot of orders, and if Theophilus Chin’s imagining of a new Roadster comes to fruition, Tesla may have another best-seller on its hands.

For this Roadster render, Theo reshaped the electric car to carry just two doors instead of the previous four. Items like the large panoramic roof are omitted here as well, while roll hoops have been added for safety.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has stated the Model 3 will be a point of reference for the successor to the company’s first car, the Roadster. The Lotus Elise-based model has since been discontinued but become the poster child for Tesla, proving that electric cars need not be dull and dreary to look at, while propelling the company forward with cars like the Model S and Model X.

For now, the new Roadster – if it will be called that – won’t be ready until about 2019. Musk claims that the new Roadster will have a performance level setting higher than Ludicrous, ‘Maximum Plaid’, a homage to the 1987 comedy film Space Balls starring Mel Brooks.

The render certainly looks promising, but we’ll have to wait till 2019 for the official reveal of the new Tesla Roadster to see what the company comes up with.
