Jeep has released the first photos its latest small SUV, the 2017 Jeep Compass. The new car will go on sale in North America in the first quarter of next year, before reaching over 100 countries around the world.

It’s a handsome thing, taking the best cues from the Cherokee, Grand Cherokee and Renegade. It ditches the Cherokee’s controversial dual-tier headlights, wearing more conventional GC-like items. The blacked-out roof – reminiscent of the Renegade – is a particular cool touch. Meanwhile, the interior is par for the course for newer Jeeps, with a touchscreen sitting front and centre, flanked by vertical air vents.

Details remain scarce, but Jeep says that the Compass will come with 17 different powertrain options, plus class-leading 4×4 off-road capability (it better have it, wearing that badge), superior on-road driving dynamics and a number of safety and technology features. The company also promises “open-air freedom,” which means the car could come with a panoramic sunroof or even removable roof panels (like the Renegade).

More information and photos of the 2017 Jeep Compass will be revealed closer to the car’s debut at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show in November.

“open-air freedom”: when you are not confident of yourself, you want to cover everythings; Mat Salleh and Chinapersons are living happily; everybody wants panoramic sunroof, and, during weekends, cabrio.
