Mercedes-Benz will reveal a concept version of its much-awaited pick-up truck on October 25 in Stockholm, Sweden. This is big news as it will mark the German carmaker’s entry into a new segment.

The thumbnail image accompanying the live stream video doesn’t show much of the truck, with the only giveaways being a slightly rounded front-end, along with a pointed edge where the flatbed joins with the tailgate. We’ll have to wait for the official reveal to identify more unique cues.

However, expect the Mercedes pick-up to have some resemblance to an artist’s sketch released back in March 2015, where it was later announced that the Renault-Nissan Alliance would be the German company’s strategic partner on the project.

The partnership will see the Mercedes pick-up (rumoured to be called the GLT) be based on the Nissan NP300 Navara/Renault Alaskan. Engine options will likely include a 2.5 litre petrol, along with two turbodiesel options (2.3 litre and 3.0 litre), and the pick-up will be built by the Alliance at its plants in Cordoba, Argentina and Barcelona, Spain for Mercedes.

The pick-up will come only in dual-cab form, focusing on both “work and play“. Initial key markets include Latin America, South Africa, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, with development and testing taking place in Australia. It will be positioned above names like the Ford Ranger, Volkswagen Amarok, Toyota Hilux, and the very truck it is based on as well.
