Have you ever been confused when someone mentions the word “quattro” to you? Are you unsure if said person is referring to Audi’s proprietary all-wheel drive system or its or its high-performance sports car subsidiary responsible for churning out RS models?
Well, the German automaker has decided to make your life easier by renaming its quattro GmbH division to Audi Sport GmbH. Beyond the name change, everything remains as before, with Stephan Winkelmann (former Lamborghini CEO) presiding as company CEO, as well as the 1,200 employees at locations in Neckarsulm and Ingolstadt.
Audi Sport will also continue to develop and manufacture the Audi R8 and Audi RS models, manage its customer motorsport programmes, handle the Audi exclusive car personalisation programme, and produce lifestyle products marketed as the Audi Sport collection.
Over the next 18 months, the newly-named division will be launching eight new models to add to its roster that currently includes the RS 3, RS 6, RS 7, RS Q3, TT RS and R8. It also plans to increase the number of Audi Sport dealers from 370 to 600 by the end of 2017.
