Audi AG has announced that from March 15, 2016, Stephan Winkelmann will be the new CEO of quattro GmbH, succeeding Heinz Hollerweger, who is set to retire after 40 years of service. Winkelmann is currently the CEO of Lamborghini, and will be succeeded by former Scuderia Ferrari F1 team principal, Stefano Domenicali.

Audi’s quattro GmbH includes the Audi Sport brand with customer motorsport, the development and distribution of the R and RS models, the accessories of the Audi Sport collection and the car customising services of Audi exclusive. The retiring Hollerweger is responsible for increasing the Audi subsidiary’s sales by 13% in 2015 to more than 17,000 units, as well as numerous developments throughout the years.

Winkelmann has been in charge of Lamborghini since 2005. Over the past 11 years, he has been instrumental in in the brand’s success, doubling vehicle sales and tripling the size of its dealer network, which now encompasses 135 dealers in 50 countries, including Malaysia. In 2015, Lamborghini hit a new record with deliveries of 3,245 units.

Among the models introduced under his stewardship include derivatives of the Gallardo, the Huracan and Aventador. Last year, a third model line was announced, the Urus luxury SUV, which will begin production in 2018. Lamborghini’s motorsport initiatives, including the Lamborghini Blancpain SuperTrofeo single-make series, the GT3 championship, and the instructional driving courses Accademia and Esperienza, proved to be successful initiatives as well.

Meanwhile, Winkelmann’s successor, Stefano Domenicali, will take over as CEO of Lamborghini at the same time (March 15, 2016) as the German. Domenicali has had a 23-year career with Ferrari, which includes a term as team principal of Scuderia Ferrari F1 from 2008-2014.

Though the Scuderia won the F1 World Constructor’s Championship in 2008, a lacklustre performance without a single F1 Championship since then (driver’s or constructor’s) saw the Italian depart the team to assume a new role as vice president, New Business Initiatives at Audi AG in 2014.
