New ChargEV station available at Petronas Serdang

Following the announcement of GreenTech Malaysia’s partnership with Petronas Dagangan (PDB) for the installation of ChargEV charging stations, the collaboration has now seen the launch of a new ChargEV facility at the Petronas station in Solaris Serdang, in Seri Kembangan.

The Petronas Serdang station is one of 10 Petronas outlets which feature a ChargEV electric vehicle charging facility. The other nine Petronas stations are in Solaris Putra, NKVE Damansara, Elite Bukit Jelutong, NKVE Subang, Kesas Timur, Kesas Barat, Genting Sempah, Ayer Keroh (Southbound) and along the Federal Highway (Batu Tiga).

Starting from these initial locations, PDB will continue to install further charging stations along major highways in Peninsular Malaysia, which will come in handy for EV and plug-in hybrid drivers planning out-of-town trips. Up to 66 locations are planned.

The charging point hardware at Petronas stations are New Motion three-phase units, rated at 400V and 22 kW. As seen here, the charging point is located close to the station’s Mesra store.

A ChargEV card is required for activation. Tap the card on the top of the charger unit after plugging your own cable into your car’s charge port; a blue light indicates charging is in progress. Once charge is completed (indicated by green light), tap the card once again before unplugging.

Kos pembinaan setiap stesen pengecas adalah RM50,000 di mana dengan dana NAP berjumlah RM150 juta, sebenarnya boleh membangunkan lebih banyak stesen pengecas di seluruh negara menjelang 2020. Syabas Petronas!

  • I think Petronas also sees where the trend is going now, as far as EV is concerned.

In the not too distant future, fossil fuel will be limited to driving Kubota and Caterpillar tractors in farms.

About 2 hours for a full charge on the XC90.

Most PHEV is on that level.

Stupid to be placing chargers at petrol stations.

Instead, they should place chargers at destinations, places where people can go and spend 1-2 hours easily, such as Ipoh town for lunch breaks for commuters travelling between KL – Penang etc.

For Tesla with 90kWh battery pack, it would take about 4-5 hours

  • Charging stations like this should have DC fast charging for quick top-ups. Also, there’s 4 electrified cars there but only one charging station?

charging should be less than 2 minutes, about the same time as pumping fuel. currently malaysia cannot cope with EV if there are too many electric cars around. imagine, 100 cars queuing to charge.

    • Duh charging in 2 minutes? U dreaming?

Battery technology haven’t reached that stage yet. The fastest is approx 20 to 30 minutes to say 80% capacity.

Best is to charge at home during night time.

Waiting for car wireless charge. *Cost aside* This way they can embed every wireless charger underneath dedicated parking spot in shopping malls or in office where we can easily spend 4-5 hours.

Anyhow the it will be super duper ultra costly. But imagine the convenience eh….

Let’s talk about more EV charging stations at shopping malls first. In fact, even just 2-4 EV charging station at most malls would be welcome as there are still many malls without any at all.
