Ford unveiled its 2018 Mustang back in January this year, bringing with it a host of new equipment as well as a revamped design. The latter involves a new front end that is either welcomed or rejected, depending on who’s looking at it.
However, did you know that the Mustang’s nose was inspired by one of the most iconic screen villains of all time? We are of course referring to Darth Vader, whose most recent appearance was in the 2016 blockbuster Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
“When we were designing the new 2018 Mustang, the team wanted to make the new model look more aggressive, and one place where we found inspiration was one of the most famous screenplay villains of all time. The angled nostrils and contours of Darth Vader’s mask became the inspiration for the Mustang’s new fog lamp scoops and front-end shape,” said Ford’s design manager, Melvin Betancourt in a report by Autoblog.
Included here is a sketch of the new Mustang, along with a photo of older and Sith-ier Anakin Skywalker for you to see the resemblance, if any. The only question now is, which Star Wars should serve as an inspiration for future Ford models? Hopefully not a known Gungan.
