Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) has announced another recall for Nissan vehicles over potentially defective Takata airbag inflators. Three locally-assembled models are involved in the latest recall round – the Frontier and Sentra as well as an additional batch of first-generation X-Trail SUVs.
A total of 48,517 units of the N16 Sentra built between June 2000–December 2012 are affected by the recall, along with 1,032 units of the D22 Frontier manufactured between July 2004–December 2012. As for the first-gen T30 X-Trail, a total of 3,158 vehicles – made between Jnuary 2009–December 2012 – are involved in the latest recall.
The company added that Nissan Sentra vehicles not equipped with an airbag are not included in the exercise, and doesn’t affect the later generation X-Trail models (second-gen T31 and third-gen T32) or other current selling Nissan models.
All customers of the affected Nissan vehicles will be notified by letter through Tan Chong Ekspres Auto Servis (TCEAS). Customers receiving this letter are advised to call the nearest TCEAS outlet for an appointment. All labour and replacement parts for these service campaigns will be at no cost to owners.
The company said that operation hours have been extended at selected TCEAS, and with outlets now opens 365 days a year, affected customers will find it easier to be able to replace their car’s airbag inflators.
It added that airbag inflator replacements can be carried out during the Test Drive Carnival, held today and tomorrow (May 19-20) at AEON Mall Kota Bharu, Kelantan, from 10 am until 10 pm. Customers who would like to know more about the recall campaign and to check if their vehicle is included in it may call the Nissan Customer Care Centre at 1800-88-3838.

defects which inconvenient, make sound like empty milo tin.
Why ETCM only decided to recall now ? Takata airbag had been exposed for some times, in this case, Honda is doing a better job on the response and take immediate action.

ETCM and UMW must follow Honda works on this airbags recall excercise! Honda’s airbag recall practise should be made as industry standard. I guess until todate still many Vios or G. Livina still having explosive Takata’s airbags. Most of these owners doesn’t even heard of this recall affected their cars. NEVER!
