Geely Auto reports 118% increase in revenue, 1H 2017

Zhejiang Geely subsidiary Geely Auto has released its financial report for the first half of 2017, and the company has announced a 118% increase in revenue to 39.42 billion RMB (RM25.36 billion) from the same period last year. Profits, meanwhile, reached 4.344 billion RMB (RM2.79 billion), up 128% from the first half of 2016.

The automaker sold a total of 530,627 vehicles in the first six months of 2017, an 89% increase from 1H 2016, and that was good enough to bump its share in the China market to 5%. The increase in sales were bouyed by the introduction of new models such as the Boyue SUV, Geely GC9, Emgrand GS and Emgrand GL, all of which have performed exceptionally well.

Sales of SUVs amounted to 233,482 units, with the Boyue accounting for 116,932 units of this total, an increase of 509% from the same period last year.

As for sedans, the company shifted 292,314 units in the first half of 2017, among which were 117,718 units of the New Emgrand, 45,486 of the A+ segment Emgrand GL, and 16,404 of the Geely GC9. On the alternative fuel front, the Emgrand EV sold 7,982 units in the first half of 2017.

The company added that it remains on track to reach its adjusted annual sales target of 1.1 million units, with new models launched and planned for launch in the second half of the year.

It said that the 2017 model year Geely GC9 was introduced to the Chinese domestic market in early August, and this will soon be followed by an entry-level crossover SUV. In the fourth quarter of 2017, the company will be launching a completely new SUV as well as 2018 model year versions of its New Emgrand, New Vision and Vision SUV.
