UMW Toyota introduces accessories for Hilux, Sienta – custom integrated Smart Tag unit for all models

UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has introduced new accessories for the Toyota Hilux pick-up truck and Sienta MPV.

For the current generation double cab truck, there’s a TRD aerokit priced at RM4,800 including GST and installation. The five-piece kit consists of a front grille, front lower bumper cover, over fenders, skid plate and shift knob. Owners the top Hilux 2.8G also have the option of adding TRD 18-inch alloys with exclusive wheel nuts at extra cost.

Tailgate Assist for the Hilux (current and 2005-2016 generation) has been developed in response to customer feedback, which showed a request for easier opening and closing of the truck’s tailgate. Toyota’s engineers have designed an additional spring/damper unit which can “reduce” the heaviness of the tailgate by up to 95%. The damper also controls the opening speed so that the tailgate does not swing right down. It is priced at RM985 and installation can be done at UMWT service centres.

Another interesting accessory is a built-in SmartTAG unit. This RM329 item consists of a Touch n Go card reader, which can be placed in the centre console, and an antenna/transmitter that is stuck on the windscreen. The card reader is powered by the vehicle’s battery, and when the stored value in the card is RM10 or less, it sounds a warning beep. The custom SmartTAG can be easily installed in all current Toyota models as well as previous generations of certain models.

For the Sienta, a RM2,950 aerokit adds on a front bumper spoiler and side skirts. Current owners of the Hilux and Sienta can have the new aerokit via retrofitting – enquire at your Toyota dealership. All the above accessories come with a warranty covering manufacturing and installation defects for three years or 100,000 km, whichever comes first.

  • Almost RM1K to install a hydraulic strut and a spring when you could easily ask an accessory shop to do the same thing under RM100. Want to see the bodohs to would spend the money for this.

    • Not just any capalang unit, ok? It’s Toyota-branded, to appeal to brand snobs among us. Good resale value for the Smart Tag unit guaranteed, maybe.

    • Trial implementation in Jan 2018 for certain vehicles. Fully implement takes time to roll out, just like current cashless tolls.

Been using that Integrated Smart Tag for quite a while now. Works well and have yet encountered any issues at the toll booth.
