In a bid to entice customers, Volkswagen USA is now offering a six-year/72,000 mile (115,873 km) on almost every 2018 model year vehicle in its line-up – except the e-Golf. According to Automotive News, the offer is twice the duration of those from most competitors.
The move brings Volkswagen’s other vehicle warranties up to par with those of the 2018 Tiguan and Atlas. The new extended warranty is transferable to ensuing owners for up to six years from the date of purchase or up to the mileage limit. It is also double the industry standard (three-year/36,000 mile), which is offered by most of Volkswagen’s competitors there.
The brand is attempting to restore its market share (and reputation) after its involvement in a diesel emissions scandal that resulted in massive repercussions, including buybacks and cash payments to customers. “Our future success depends on how well we listen and respond to our customers to rebuild their love for Volkswagen,” said Hinrich Woebcken, CEO of Volkswagen Group of America.
“Having a best-in-class warranty is impacting their buying decisions. Bringing the expanded warranty to the remainder of the lineup can only help sell vehicles. The perceived cost of ownership of a Volkswagen has always been one of the reasons why people have not considered the brand, and I think having the warranty addresses that concern head-on,” added Michael DiFeo, chairman of the Volkswagen National Dealer Advisory Council.

Oh wai… In mesia, Nissan & Infiniti having highest 7yrs unlimited mileage warranty. Followed by Honda & Toyota 5yrs unlimited mileage warranty. Those offered limited warranty years milleage, will only tell public their motor parts having shorter lifespan/realibility issues.
Malaysia boleh?
I thought kia have that 10yr powertrain warranty in US ….no?
BMW offers a 10 year extended warranty too. The costs are usually less than 5% of the new car value so most people get it.
I believe Lexus has offered a 72 month warranty on the powertrain for awhile now.
Hyundai, Kia and Mitsubishi have been offering 120 month/ 10 year power train warranties.
A lot of the 3 year warranties are because of the trucks – these are high mileage work vehicles.
