The Toyota Hilux range in Malaysia was updated not too long ago, with UMW Toyota Motor introducing new features to the pick-up truck. The revision also saw a reduction in the number of variants to just six, with the 2.8G 4×4 AT at the very top – the focus of today’s gallery post.
As part of the update, the 2.8G 4×4 AT now comes with LED foglamps that join its existing LED headlamps (with LED DRLs). Other additions include an automatic climate control system with rear air-con vents, cruise control and Downhill Assist Control.
No changes under the bonnet, with the 1GD-FTV 2.8 litre turbodiesel continuing to serve up 177 PS and 450 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and a four-wheel drive system with on-the-fly switching and a rear differential lock.
This particular Hilux also comes specified with a few optional accessories, the first of which is a RM2,300 Tough Package that includes a front bumper underguard, wheel fenders and roof rails. The other item fitted is a 360-degree Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) to make parking slightly easier, priced at RM2,650.
Focusing on the rest of the Hilux range, the 2.4G STD variants have been removed, while the 2.4G models get an improved equipment list. The 2.4G 4×4 MT gets Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) and brake assist. Like the 2.8G, both 2.4G variants also get USB charging ports.
In terms of pricing, the 2.8G 4×4 AT retails at RM130,900 on-the-road excluding insurance and the above-mentioned optional accessories. Further down is the 2.4G 4×4 AT (RM116,300), 2.4G 4×4 MT (RM106,700), 2.4 STD 4×4 MT (RM96,900), 2.4 2×4 MT (RM89,100) and 2.4 4×4 MT (RM87,200).
