2018 Land Rover Discovery updated – gets Emergency Braking system with pedestrian detection and 4G Wi-Fi

Land Rover has just introduced the updated Discovery in the United States, now featuring new driver assistance systems, additional powertrain and design options. The entry-level Discovery SE, which goes for US$52,090 (RM217,400), is finally getting the upgraded Land Rover InControl Touch Pro Navigation system with a 10-inch touchscreen as standard.

Making its way to the HSE and HSE Luxury variants is a 12.3-inch Interactive Driver Display TFT instrument cluster and the brand’s second-generation head-up display; the duo were previously available as an option. Digital connectivity has also been enhanced thanks to 4G Wi-Fi, shareable with up to eight mobile devices.

All Discovery models manufactured from 2018 will get Emergency Braking system with pedestrian detection as standard. However, Advanced Tow Assist and the seven-seat configuration with Seat Fold function remain optional items.

As for powertrain choices, the 3.0 litre Td6 V6 is now available in the entry-level SE. With 285 PS and 600 Nm of torque, Land Rover claims a maximum permissible towing capacity of 3,500 kg, but that didn’t stop the company from attempting to tow a 110-tonne train! All models share the same eight-speed automatic and the company’s famous four-wheel drive system.

A new Bryon Blue exterior paint colour joins the existing palette, and 2018 owners of Dynamic and Black Packs can now opt for body-coloured roof at no extra cost, having been limited to Corris Grey or Narvik Black colours prior to the update.

Back home, the fifth-generation Discovery just made its public debut last week and in Td6 HSE guise. Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia has already started taking orders for the car, which will be launched in January 2018.
