Peugeot, Huawei developing connected car systems

The PSA Group, makers of Peugeot and Citroen cars, will develop a secure connected vehicle system in a new partnership with Chinese telecoms giant Huawei Technologies, the French carmaker announced yesterday, reported by Reuters.

“Our partnership with Huawei is about connected vehicle development platforms,” said PSA engineering chief Gilles Le Borgne at a mobility-themed event hosted by the company.

There aren’t a lot of details on the PSA-Huawei collaboration yet, but new services on offer will include remote vehicle diagnostics, over-the-air software updates and car-sharing capabilities, PSA said. The first services will be rolled out next year in Europe and China, the home markets of both companies.

Makes sense doesn’t it, getting an expert in the field to help out with a portion of the work while you get on with what you do best – in PSA’s case, making cars. Will this be a start of a trend connecting carmakers and tech companies?
