There’s much hype about the Ford Ranger Raptor that will be making its debut next month in Thailand, but it looks like the regular Ford Ranger will also be given a refresh. These pics, posted by Headlightmag, were taken by a Thai Ford Ranger Club member in Rayong, where the Ranger is produced for worldwide consumption.
This T6 generation of the Ford Ranger made its debut back in 2011, and a major facelift followed exactly four years later in 2015. The current T6 facelift has been sold in Malaysia since October 2015.
Compared to the current car with the regular face (not the Wildtrak), the 2018 minor change is a minor one in the looks department. The most obvious change is on the grille, which thick chrome borders no longer extend deep into the bumper. The thick central chrome bar that “holds” the Blue Oval badge has been replaced by two slimmer but longer bars. The top border of the grille with “Ranger” lettering is also slimmer.
The new grille is less bold, less shiny and more Everest-like. It’s paired with a reprofiled bumper and headlamps that have daytime running light (DRL) strips underlining the main beams. This unmasked mule wears “Limited” badging on the sides and tailgate – this could be a high-spec trim level above the XLT. There will be FX4 and Wildtrak versions for those wanting more aggression, for sure.
Currently, the Ranger is powered by a 2.2 litre Duratorq TDCi engine with outputs ranging from 125 to 160 hp and 320 to 385 Nm. There’s also a 3.2 litre five-cylinder turbodiesel with 200 hp and 470 Nm of torque. Transmission choices for the “Puma” engine are a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic.
The upcoming Ford Performance Ranger Raptor is expected to come with a new “Panther” 2.0 litre EcoBlue twin turbo diesel engine with 190 hp and 215 hp outputs, paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
This is the car/truck that saved SDAC Ford Malaysia. Otherwise, all their models, Focus, Fiesta, Mondeo all got ZERO sales.
Pity every single Ford model failed in Malaysia. Lucky this Ranger is a top seller and saved Ford Malaysia from becoming the next Fiat….bust.
this Ranger just a pretender to all conquering Hilux
This fellow obviously forgotten that UMW has stubbornly refused to offer the best VGT turbos for the Hilux for the longest time.
All conquering apparently didn’t include being left in the dust.
I thought VNT (also known as VGT) already offered as standard feature for Hilux for the past few years.
Looks like a Kia pickup. Shud have stick with the older F-150 look.
Hope they solve the air-cond issue!!
Road condition in east malaysia especially in rural areas still tough to handle and mountain and what is in buyers mind is economical in terms of maintenance, fuel efficient, smooth gear transition and thats what makes ford ranger sales still low compare to what japanese car offer
Diesel price is surpassing petrol… Shud ford put a petrol in the Ranger?
Yet another facelift. Get your finger out, Ford
