Volkswagen provides 21 units of Polo to Socar for car-sharing in Malaysia – another 29 units in mid-May

Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has announced that it will be providing 50 units of the Polo 1.6 Hatch to Socar, the car-sharing service from South Korea. The company, which has been signed as one of Socar’s preferred partners, has already delivered 21 cars, with another 29 units arriving in mid-May.

“The Volkswagen Polo was a natural choice for Socar’s fleet expansion, because it is the perfect city car, offering an assuredly safe, yet fun quality drive,” said Socar Malaysia CEO Leon Foong. “It is also one of the world’s most widely produced car models.”

Foong said that the service’s current demographic of users in Malaysia is in the mid-30s, who either want to try new car models or are households that need a second or third car from time to time. “The beauty of the car-sharing model is that as a member, you have several types of cars at your fingertips serving your different needs from a leisurely cruise out of the city to a trunk heavy trip to Ikea,” he added.

Managing director of VPCM Erik Winter said, “We are pleased to collaborate with Socar. Through this partnership, we are able to offer the members of the public easy access to Volkswagen cars and have them enjoy its German-engineered capabilities. The Polo is perfect for city driving, though it may be small in stature it offers a dynamic drive without compromising on safety and comfort.”

The Polo is being offered in May with a starting price of RM13.90 per hour, inclusive of fuel and comprehensive insurance. The Socar smartphone app is available for download on Apple’s App Store for iOS devices and Google’s Play Store for Android.

That Leon Foong CEO fella is smart. Used back his old contacts back in Uber days (remember the special hire purchase plan for you old Uber Old Timer Drivers circa 2015?) and now utilize it for Socar.

VW also can dispose some of its existing Polo in hand through this method
