Smart Selangor Parking – coupon-less payment system to be implemented across Selangor by 2019

The Smart Selangor Parking (SSP) system, which allows the public to make payments for parking and vehicle summonses through a smartphone app, is expected to be implemented at all 12 local authorities (PBT) in Selangor next year.

According to Bernama, the director of Smart Selangor Delivery Unit (SSDU, developer of the SSP) Dr Fahmi Ngah said, as a start, the SSP will be installed at five local authorities, which are the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ), Sepang Municipal Council (MPSp), Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) and Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) beginning July 1, 2018.

Fahmi said the system will simplify the process of paying parking fees or compounds and removes the need to source for a coupon agent. The move to implement SSP is also in line with the state government’s wish to make Selangor a Smart State.

“Through the SSP, users can top-up an account through a dedicated smartphone app, which can be used to pay parking fees and compounds within the designated ‘on street parking box’ at the aforementioned local authorities,” he said. “Users can add credit to their SSP accounts via existing online banking systems such as Maybank2u, CIMB Clicks, Ambank Online and Boost e-wallet,” explained Fahmi at the SSP Phase 1 launch.

He also said the SSDU is working together with the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) on a pilot project to oversee the SSP’s operations, and make sure that it works smoothly for both users and local authorities. The project, which started on May 1 and ends on June 30, is being conducted in Dataran Sunway, PJU 5, Kota Damansara and involves approximately 1,522 ‘on street’ parking spots.

Fahmi noted that the parking fee with SSP is based on the existing rate set by the respective councils. The SSP is reportedly based on a zero-cost business model, but it’s unclear if it will entirely replace the traditional coupon system.

What do you think of this, guys? Will this be your preferred method of paying for parking, or do you prefer using parking coupons instead? Comment below!

Selangor and Penang is miles ahead in thinking, ideas, development and progress. We must thank the brains of the Selangor Government and also the current Pakatan Government.

You can see, when there is no dedak involved, both the states have improved by leaps and bounds.

FINALLY……. We are dragging ourself to the 21st century.
In many other countries, for the past many years, parking can be paid via app or by sending an sms with the car’s number plate, date and time period for parking, to a particular government number.
Even Middle East Arab countries are doing this.

When the authority enforcerer comes along with his hand held device, all he needs to do is to scan your number plate to check on your details.
If your car mumber plate is not in the system for parking on that date and time period, you will get a fine registered immediately in the system with accompanying black points, and you will get an sms within the next few mins informing you as such.
This also happens for illegal parkings, with an accompanying picture.

For the yearly road tax renewals, if the fines registered in the system are not paid off, the road tax cannot be renewed.

Driving an car without the proper registration details (road tax & insurance) will automatically land you both a court session and a fine of 5 thousand.

This will ensure compliance from the various monkeys on the road who purposely do not follow road regulations.

I think i have complain is user must topup minimun RM 10 to their respective PBT. Let say a user visited Shah Alam once a year. They need top up RM 10, only the can pay for the fare. Why cant it be a single topup for all PBT in selangor?

It’s a single topup for all PBT… It saved a lot of coupons in my car. I’ve been using Flexi Parking for all 6 PBT and it’s very convenient to even pay summon. I think a lot of people complain about the charges but only RM1 per topup. If topup RM100, it’s only 1% and better than the TnG parking that charges10% for parking in the malls.

I do hope they can take up more PBT. At least no need to use multiple apps or buy multiple coupons.

        1) “Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of VALUE” or
        2) “Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world”.

    1) for us there is nothing wrong with coin operated system. Coinage is universal. Coupon (especially when you need to carry 4 or 5 different ones) is stupid

    Good;
    unified.
    Can extend parking duration remotely
No more spoilt coin ticket/no coupon agents/having to walk back to car to out ticket/coupon

    Bad
payment isn’t. If want to go cashless , why not integrate with TnG as well, since every motorist has one already? TnG also has top up facilities basically everywhere. Yes, TnGs service fees are daylight robbery, so I’m no fan of them, but it is the biggest cashless payment system used by motorists now.

If you don’t have a smartphone/data access or linked account? No need to park? Hmmmm

    • It didn’t say they are doing away with the current legacy system. In the places I’ve been that has something similar implemented, it works alongside traditional systems (coins and/or coupons). Out of battery, no probs use coupon/coins but the benefit of having an app cannot be understated.

Now there is no need to wait for the parking officers to come tag your car and issue you the summons…usually 2 or 3 times in a spot.

Now, they can use use a remote CCTV camera to scan the car plates every minute. The second it expires, you get ding. :P

Wonder what is the grace period..if any. Does the app have an alarm/notification feature?

The coupon less system was implemented in Abu Dhabi abt 6 yrs ago with great success. Gone were the days looking for slot machine, getting the right change and rushing to top up to extend parking time.

every app wants us to top up in their wallet. why can’t it be deducted from our bank account or credit card whenever we want to pay for it? why must i give money to some company and let them keep?

Would there be any machine for them to pay?

    • Places I’ve been to have a similar system have also maintained a coin based system. So there is no need to get hot under the collar about this. No where in the article do they say they are abolishing the current system although the article would have benefited if it had mentioned so explicitly.

I have been using MPAJ Parking app for some time now without issue. The SSP looks identical to the MPAJ Paying app. It is a good move to standardise one app for all councils, otherwise we will need so many apps each with its own prepaid value. As it is, I have to use a different app for DBKL, JomParking app.
