Porsche Turbo Charging stations deployed in Berlin

With Porsche’s all-electric sports car, the Taycan, arriving in 2019, the German carmaker has begun rolling out its own fast-charging infrastructure with the first few ‘Porsche Turbo Charging’ stations being deployed at at the Berlin-Adlershof Technology Park in Germany.

These stations, which utilise 800-volt charging technology, were developed by Porsche Engineering Services and offer almost double the voltage of most existing fast-charging stations. As a reference, Tesla’s Supercharger network consists of 480-volt DC charging stations.

According to Porsche, the higher voltage level significantly reduces the charging time for a range of 400 km to just 20 minutes from the 40-80 minutes with a 400-volt charger. To ensure these high-voltage charging stations operate without overheating, advanced liquid-cooling solutions are put in place.

The charging park at Porsche Centre Berlin-Adlershof is being offered for free to all vehicles (not just Porsches) that are equipped with a Combined Charging System (CCS) connector; this is in line with the company’s belief that future electric cars should use common chargers.
