2019 Yamaha MT-07 in Malaysia during third quarter?

Very popular in the Malaysian middleweight motorcycle class is the Yamaha MT-07, which currently retails for RM34,713 with zero-rated GST. However, the MT-07 was given an update for the 2018/2019 model year and shown at the EICMA show in Milan, Italy in November 2017.

Market rumours are now saying the 2019 MT-07 will be launched in Malaysia “quite soon,” in the third quarter, perhaps as early as September. The 2018/2019 MT-07 was available in Europe from the beginning of this year, in March.

Most of the changes to the 2019 MT-07 are cosmetic with the engine still the 689 cc liquid-cooled DOHC parallel-twin engine with Crossplane 270-degree crank, producing 73.7 hp at 9,000 rpm and 68 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. A six-speed gearbox and chain final drive gets power to the ground.

The seat on the 2019 MT-07 is a new design that is 30% larger and extends a little down the side of the tank, which Yamaha claims gives an improved riding position for riders of all sizes. Suspension settings on the 2019 MT-07 have been revised both front and back, with the rear monoshock coming with a reworked rebound damping and spring pre-load adjustment.

Bodywork on the MT-07 has also been revised, with the headlight, LED DRLs and taillights coming closer in look to the MT-09. The “air intakes” on the sides of the 14-litre fuel tank are also new, tying the 2019 Yamaha MT-07 visually to its MT-10 and MT-09 siblings.

one thing i like about this model is that even with just slip ons, it sounds way way better than its rivals like the 650 Kawis, thanks to that 270 crank. reminds me of the trx 850.

If the local launch window of Q3 happens, then that’s a turnaround between EICMA and local launch of about 10-11 months.

For the new 09, it was around 14 months.

    Kudos HLYM.

Unlikely. The price after tax will be very close to mt09 tracer so it will be cannibalising own market.

Still no ABS??? How about assist and slipper clutch? Come on Yamaha don’t be too greedy we know current barebone MT-07 is selling well now even though Kawasaki offers their middleweight bikes with ABS, slipper clutch, etc. But how long are you going to keep skimping on safety features endangering riders life especially for this bike with it’s monstrous torque! Even the little 155cc R15 you equip with ABS and slipper clutch, then MT-07 already more than deserves it.

No Abs?? If I remember it correctly, the latest MT07 version released during EICMA last year did has ABS included. I was eagerly waiting for this version to be released in Msia since early this year but there was no news till this article came out. So I ended up buying z650, probably not as fun as this mt07, but so far I’m loving it..
