Geely’s new C-segment sedan, the Binrui, was partially unveiled just a week ago, but additional details and photos have proven to be elusive, and it still is. Though it looks like a shrunken down version of Geely’s flagship Borui sedan, the Binrui gets a more modest footprint, with an overall length of 4,680 mm and 2,670 mm wheelbase.
Take those numbers with a pinch of salt, though. For engines, it will get two turbo petrol engines, starting with a 1.0 litre direct-injected three-cylinder that produces 134 hp and 180 Nm of torque from 2,000 to 3,000 rpm, and a 1.4 litre petrol making 131 hp and 215 Nm of torque from 2,000 to 4,000 rpm. Average fuel consumption is rated at 4.9 litres per 100 km for the smaller engine, and 5.7 litres per 100 km for the latter.
A new lucky draw microsite has revealed never-before-seen images of the sedan, particularly the rear section and the cabin. At the back, the Binrui echoes the Borui’s rump with the LED tail lights, chrome tailgate and hexagonal exhaust tips. The roofline takes on a fastback-style design, giving it a nice profile overall, but the proportions seem a tad awkward when viewed from higher up. What do you think?
Inside, the cabin is typical Geely classy. Simple and contemporary is the theme here, starting with the three-spoke leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, digital instrument cluster, push-start button and a widescreen 10.25-inch infotainment display. This supports smartphone pairing functionalities and allows 4G Wi-Fi compatibility, GPS navigation, voice recognition and rear view camera.
Below that are buttons and dials for the dual-zone climate control, a leather gear stick, cubby holes and leather centre armrest. Things are certainly not as posh and elegant as the Borui, but the clutter-free cabin may tickle your fancy. Like the way it looks?
For safety, the Binrui gets a host of driver assist features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Keeping Assist System, Lane Departure Assist, Intelligent Guiding System (semi-autonomous system) and auto high/low beam.
Now, will the Binrui come to Malaysia as a Proton? Well, besides the newly-launched SX11 SUV, Proton could get either one, or both. The Binrui and SX11 both share the same B-Segment Modular Architecture (BMA) platform which Proton will utilise in the future.
BMA is designed to accommodate all the latest active safety technologies, future Level 2 and Level 3 autonomous driving features and Geely’s latest petrol engines, including a 1.5 litre turbo direct-injected engine developed in partnership with Volvo.
The Binrui could potentially become the next-generation Preve, powered by downsized engines. Would you like this as the new Preve, or the SX11 to slot below the Boyue-based SUV? Let us know below.
Aiyah in Hokkien Bo Rui mean no money and Bin Rui or Rui Bin mean money face…. Wa pantang laa
Pantang dun buy lor
wow, Geely only started in 1997. Proton started in 1985. Proton is 12 years older than Geely and yet, Geely can make sexy wonderful designs like this.
And shockingly, Geely made RM167 BILLION in profits last year.
I cannot understand. How can a younger company make such good designs? Look at the 1.0 engine…so advanced and so much of power!
It’s all about market. China market so big that’s why they got plenty of money and can produce good design car. Proton have greater design but can’t produce…Just look at Proton concept car…
indeed. with 1bil population, the market is huge & offer cheap labor cost.
plus back in China, their reverse engineering is so great & their gov doesn’t protect much on foreign car/manufacturer when comes to clone design.
that is 1 of the reason they can make profit & having fast technology advancement
Aiyahh…should be Binti Rui then u want.
Proton, your market share will drop further as Tun is going at 100m world record pace to launch PROTIGA.People are satisfied with perodua Daihatsu engines…they r not sure of MADE FROM CHINA car products.
If u cant sell 50,000 units ,just close shop lor.
Just lobby for a giant AP and sell exotic cars like NAza.
hahaha…again? next C? D? segment?… so many times rumours about a new car for proton that inspired from geely products… but none until now appeared on malaysian road… geely has already owns proton… but till now..i can only see persona, exora and saga on the road… so? wheres the point geely owning proton company?….

Woi dupang, ini d china lh
U think make a car is like make a bread? Be realistic..
U think making car is like rice-plate eating?
If this car comes in, I will buy it. Thank you Geely for saving Proton and thank you China for turning Proton around for the better.
WIRA mk.2 , since the 1st gen model was also a foreign brand
This compared to Perotiga?
Perotiga also will need a bailout and we will need for China to come and save us again. So, might as well go for this.
Such a good car. I will grab this if it comes to Malaysia. FC also hebat
Ugly….looks like the Perdana!
Very nice design from China! Just like their new oppo findX!
We want perotiga not chinese rebadged cars
Then be glad to pay for higher taxes on better cars.
I dun 1 rebadge from lousy toyota
Malaysia cannot produce their own cars and sustain it. We will only be a rebadger for the rest of our lives.
Actually both model are better bring in first, before goes on the coming to model boyue.. cause that the majority current market model..
Plus if this is the model will coming this Nov. or this year, i can tell u lot of myvvi owner will cancel their order, since out of stock currently.. As on design and size BinRui (no worry name will be change once reach here) already win, of couse price are the biggest role, just sell it on in between the myvvi or lower then it.
I believe this will easily kill the Myvvi and also to UMW n so on others brand.. Don’t say that is impossible, for a long term run Geely they do can make it..
Just on China market they already had enough to cover each current model they had build..so to sell it at here n future asean market, is just a bonus for them and the image as a growing up brand on automobile line and they won’t simply did something like milo tin, cause their got the top brand behinds on it.
And by that all the others brands sell in Malaysia will cut down the car price, even lower then 0% GST or will do lot of promotion..
Nothing impressive.. Same mixture of all cars.
Hancur proton..buang aje la nama proton..
Teacher : Ok ahmad, what is your full name
Ahmad : My name ahmad bin rui
Classes : Ui ui uit ui ui ui
Thats all for tonite ;P
I hate to comment something that may or may not make it to production as a Proton Preve replacement.
The OLD Preve should have been replaced ages ago :P.
(Like) new Proton Preve (Geely Bin Rui)
(Dislike) current Honda Civic 2018
sad
it doesn’t matter what next from Proton. just forget it….
only one thing i’ll remember, I’m still waiting for this new Malaysia government to disclose, how much rakyat hard earned money has used to fund Proton since 1981? where has the most recent 1.5M gone? will Proton be another country disgrace such as 1MDB?
No offense. If Malaysia keeps going maintaining their own brand and own lousy design, you and I will definitely wont buy it. As mentioned, a company which is 12 years older than Geely, why the technologies and design fall behind others? That because they dont concentrate in improving, but focus in digging….This is Malaysia culture….Makan dulu, nanti, nanti, nanti dulu….
Its not determinant by how old the company is, but by how much money was pumped into R&D. Case in point, Mercedes-AMG F1 team is still quite new but they managed to overtook much longer established teams like Ferrari, McLaren, Williams, even Red Bull due to their R&D budget out-muscles all of them. The same with Proton whose R&D budget cannot matched that of Geely’s group of companies. Improvement can be done by anyone as long there’s money for it, otherwise it’s just wishing and talking nonsense.
Wah so small engine and so little power
1.0 Engine gives 134hp while 1.4 engine makes 131hp??
The figures as quoted are accurate.
The 1.0 litre engine is a Volvo-developed three-cylinder unit with turbo direct injection, while the 1.4 litre is Geely’s own turbo four-cylinder, without direct injection.
It looks like Ford Focus Titanium, if brought into Malaysia shore a new name would be given.
If rebadge, I hope this one got handling as good as Preve, or better.
Welcoming her as preve replacement model.. maybe in other name? Putra or wira.. RIP Preve
