Contracts or approved permits (APs) sold to other parties with the objective of reaping quick profits will be cancelled immediately, said prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, as reported by the New Straits Times. This is because many who have the permits or contracts have refused to follow the example of those who retained ownership of their approved permits and contracts, he said.
“Do not sell off the opportunities and contracts given to you. We hope that the new government will help us, but help will not be given to those who want quick gains. If someone is awarded wth a contract, that is what he will get. If you pass it or sell it to others, then the contract will be cancelled,” Tun Dr Mahathir said.
“If you are not able to execute it, do not try to get contracts, especially if it is only to be sold off later, the contract will then be invalid and cannot be executed,” Tun Dr Mahathir said during a session of the Congress on the Future of the Bumiputera and Nation 2018 last Saturday.
In the Malaysian automotive industry, approved permits are the documents required for the import of cars into the country. There are two kinds of APs; one is the Franchise AP, which is used by principal companies of car brands for the official import of their cars, while the other is the Open AP, which is responsible for most of the grey-import vehicles on our roads, from other right-hand-drive markets internationally.
The desire for instant riches was also among the reasons why the New Economic Policy (NEP) failed to achieve its aims, Tun Dr Mahathir said.
“NEP was created to ensure the economic success of the Malays. But the ones who have succeeded are not Malays. The non-Malays use the opportunities before them – they get to buy the contracts and APs, set up businesses, generate wealth, expand their companies and become millionaires,” he said.

Just reduce the import car taxes. If this cannot be done, then treat cars assembled in asean as local cars.its about time we tell our businesses to treat aseans 400 mil as local msrket than just our 30 mil.if we do this, i am sure tgh rest will reciprocate, and thus will attract many investors to come.

NEP’s agenda should really have a wide and equal coverage for the good of all regardless of skin colour. Special treatment is a thing of a past and should be have been made irrelevant eons ago.
Next up, all policies should be revisited and actually enforced to erradicate any irrelevancies such like this APs. A robber could have said he robbed out of desperation to earn a living.
As long there is still this NEP or similar things that benefit one particular race only, there can never be unity among us Malaysian.
it will be interesting to see if contract sold to another parties will be terminated. this is a menace in our society.. selling off contracts to another party.
The old days were to strengthen competition against us Malaysian because not much countries can compete with Malaysia. Now there are many neighbouring countries already up to par, our country policy now should unite all Malaysians to compete against other countries, inclusive of our brothers and sisters in East Malaysia.

It was this sterner stuff PM that created AP mess that went out of control so much, the feeble PM or whoever PM even, can’t dismantle this arrangement. You don’t use the problem to solve the problem.
