SST: Volvo Car Malaysia price list – same as with GST

SST: Volvo Car Malaysia price list – same as with GST

In line with the implementation of the sales and services tax (SST) on September 1, Volvo Car Malaysia has released an updated price list for its models currently on sale, all being locally assembled (CKD). The new prices are inclusive of the 10% sales tax imposed on motor vehicles.

As you can see, there is no difference between GST-inclusive and SST-inclusive pricing for all models. The most affordable Volvo model, the V40 T5, retails at RM180,888 OTR without insurance, while the XC90 T8 Twin Engine Inscription Plus goes for RM413,888.

Based on price lists provided by car companies, the adoption of the SST has affected the pricing of models differently, with some going upwards, downwards, or in the case of Volvo, unchanged from GST-inclusive prices in the past. The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) had earlier suggested that car prices will increase with SST.

It has been announced previously that SST will be set at 10%, the same as when it was replaced by the goods and services tax (GST) in April 2015. Car buyers enjoyed a “tax holiday” that lasted three months when the GST was zero-rated from June 1 earlier this year.

  • Volvo Cars seems to be the only honest one so far with their pricing. So SST hanky panky.

They actually removed some features from the T5 such as pilot assist to bring down the cost. So it’s more a case of, lowering the value instead of increasing the price.

Don’t talk nonsense. The XC60T5 was never intended to have Pilot Assist from the beginning. Check the brochures from the beginning. The lucky buyers of the first batch got it simply because someone made a booboo and those cars had it.

Nothing have changed on the cars pre or post SST.

Still expensive as ever. But that does not kill you. Ask any Volvo owner about the maintenance cost. Pay RM15k to RM20k seems to be very common.

XC90 buyers beware. Windscreen alone RM25k. This 100X before you buy this car unless you are super rich

RM25k windscreen for XC90? I hope Volvo Malaysia sue you for fake news.

MAA predicted car price will go up after SST. The actual announcement from manufacturer shows MAA knows nothing abt the industry.

New Government should stop buying XC90 cars as escort cars. Kerajaan seem to have loads of XC90 acting as escort cars for ex Ministers.

Total waste of money. Government should use Perodua or Proton cars as their official cars. Ridiculous polis and bodyguards using XC90 cars for kerajaan big shots.

Anyway hope all is now stopped with our new Clean Government

If an average person in Sweden can’t own a Volvo what makes you think an average person in Malaysia can?

    XC60 is indeed a a good car BUT… Volvo Malaysia’s after sales-service is a big concern.
Also Volvo’s delivery schedule is inconsistent. This is based on my own experience. If a company is so inconsistent and cannot deliver on it’s delivery schedule, imagine the other issues when it comes to after-sales maintenance/warranty?
I made a XC60 booking in March and was promised the car in June.
It was then delayed to July, then August….then indefinitely.
I was told that there was a WW shortage of the T8 engine.
Imagine if there’s a after sales/maintenance issue on the engine, how long would it take Volvo to fix the problem?
In the end, I gave up my XC60 order and bought a E-class instead to enjoy the GST-free period rebate.

  • I’m so pissed off at Sisma Auto KL! I booked a unit of XC60 T8+ in Jun. I received a message from the sales person last week and told me there’s a new T8+ unit available with Luminous Sand colour and furthermore with tax holiday price. This seem to be very attractive. She asked me to consider and give her an answer by end of the day. After further clarification with the price, she told me her manager said the company make it a compulsory upgrade to 22” rim which cost additional RM23K for those take up the offer.

I’ve filed a complaint to VCM for this kind of dirty trick and demanded the transfer of booking to another dealer! I don’t trust Sisma Auto KL!!

    • Federal Auto is not much better.

After two month of waiting for the leasing approval, these people have the guts to tell me two hours after the big approval news(with the agreement letters sent to me), that the price will change due to SST… we placed booking in June (0%GST), contract leasing done in Aug, why would we as the customer have to bare the SST costs because of these delays?

We booked the car in June 2018 and got the delivery timeline(not even a date) by Q1 2019 for a XC60 T8…
But I am sure Volvo knew that upfront.

Such huge company but they are not able to provide the new leasing price with SST for us. Even after 12 days of SST implementation this lousy company is not able to provide any details at all!!
