Following on from previous road safety campaigns, Hong Leong Yamaha Motor (HLYM) has launched its Ride Preparation Awareness programme. This programme is conducted in cooperation with the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and the Malaysia Motorcycle and Scooter Dealers Association (MMSDA).
The aim of the programme is to raise awareness amongst riders on the importance of safety on the road. The programme comprises of a video and safety booklet produced by HLYM and the Road Safety Department (JKJR).
HLYM dealers will screen the video in their respective showrooms while a short safety briefing, aided by the safety booklet, will be given to each purchaser of a new motorcycle or scooter.
“Based on observation, we found many new owners of motorcycles are unaware of basic safety requirements on the road. With this programme, we hope to instil the correct attitude to new riders, and that they will be a good example to other road users,” said Datuk Jim Khor, managing director of HLYM.
Content in the safety booklet includes information on proper riding equipment, safety checks before riding and early diagnosis of potential problems with the bike. Also included are tips on riding in the rain as well as reminders on road rules and regulations.
