Geely has launched its first compact SUV, the Binyue for the Chinese market. The B-segment compact SUV is built upon the company’s BMA modular platform that was co-developed with Volvo. Like the Swedish manufacturer’s larger Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform, Geely’s BMA is scalable and flexible for varying applications.
The Geely Binyue measures 4,330 mm long, 1,800 mm wide and 1,609 mm tall, with a 2,600 mm wheelbase. The BMA platform is optimised for interior space, says Geely, and helps the Binyue attain a wheelbase utilisation rate of 68.7% for the cabin.
Powertrain options include two turbocharged, direct-injection three-cylinder petrol engines; the first is a 1.5 litre mill mated with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, while the second is a 1.0 litre unit available only with six-speed manual gearbox. The 1.5 litre engine is a Geely and Volvo co-developed unit with 174 hp and 255 Nm of torque, while the 1.0 litre churns out 134 hp and 205 Nm of torque.
Driver aids help the Binyue attain Level 2 autonomous driving; the equipment suite includes Intelligent Cruise Control and Automated Parking Assist. The former employs a combination of millimetre-wave radar and high-definition cameras to help it follow traffic ahead at speeds of up to 150 km/h, and is able to change lanes autonomously.
Safety equipment is further bolstered by the inclusion of electronic stability control, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian recognition, blind spot detection, tyre temperature and pressure monitoring system, a 360-degree HD imaging system, HD driving recorder, and more.
In keeping with present-day trends, the Binyue is equipped with Geely Auto’s latest-generation GKUI Geely Smart Ecosystem which helps users interface with mobile devices via the compact SUV.
Users can “talk directly to their cars,” says Geely, which suggests voice command, and they will also be able to stay connected to the car via their mobile devices, even when they are away from the car. The Binyue also supports unlimited 4G service and Wi-Fi to keep its occupants connected with data, while real-time, over-the-air updates keep the user experience up to date.
The interior of the Binyue has been “inspired by the enveloping cockpit of a jet plane,” Geely says, while many parts of the interior have been inspired by science fiction elements such as Star Wars machinery, which Geely says includes the air-conditioning vents which are fashioned to look like jet engine outlets.
The driver gets a seven-inch LCD instrument panel which brings additional information including telephony, multimedia, navigation and driving assistance. Alongside that is a 10.25-inch high-definition (1920 x 720) floating infotainment panel, with a unique 8:3 widescreen aspect ratio. The Binyue can be specified from three interior colour options; black, brown and red/black.
Other available features include powered seats, dual-zone automatic climate control with an air quality management system, keyless entry and start, selectable drive modes (Normal, Eco and Sport), an electronic parking brake with hold function, leather upholstery, paddle shifters and a six-speaker audio system. Customers in China will also be able to order the Binyue with a sporty bodykit, which includes new bumpers, side skirts and roof spoiler. Prices range from 78,800 yuan (RM47,194) to 118,800 yuan (RM71,150).
The Geely Binyue is already available for China, and will be launched to other markets globally ‘in due course’, the company said. The Binyue moniker at launch appears set to remain a China market fixture, as the company has kicked off a name-search contest where the winning entry will be appended to international market editions of the Binyue.
As major shareholder to national carmaker Proton, Geely has also already hinted at the latter’s use of the BMA platform, and said that it will be used by Geely’s foreign brands – of which Proton is one – and that it will be built in Southeast Asia. Given that Proton is due to launch its own SUV, the X70 in the near future, it makes sense to continue riding on the profitable crossover/SUV train.

Geely Lotus Volvo > All
Might as well get this since both xc40 and Geely are the same ?
Yep. Might as well get this Proton X50 and Proton X70.
Now people think of Volvo, they think of Geely. At the end of the day, how can Volvo enter into premium brand like thise Germans?
I don’t think that’s an issue at all in today’s automotive landscape. Major manufacturers with both mainstream and luxury Brand’s share the same platforms. Toyota/Lexus, VW/Audi. It’s the same with Geely/Volvo.
do you think of Tata if someone mentions Jaguar or Land Rover?…
Instead of creating Proton which caused all car prices to go up substantially the past 30 years, in 1985 itself we should have just been a rebadger.
Then life would have been easy for Malaysians with cheap cars
Engine kecik tapi bhp tinggi. Kenapa para Proton tak pandai cipta engine macam ini?
Kenapa toyota takde enjin macam ni?
There is. Just not in this country. In Europe, the Toyota CHR has 2 engine options, 1.8L gasoline hybrid and 1.2L gasoline turbo .
And both engines dun really get good reviews
1.8 hybrid is a joke why dun take the advantage on the hybrid tech to boost more power at lower RPM. An the turbo 1.2 is underpower for almost 1.5 tonne CHR
Toyota ada injin macam ini. Banyak turbo dan hybrid luar negara.
Malu betul. Kami sokong Proton tapi Proton boleh gagal dan kereta China boleh maju
Learn the power of capital
Takde la tu, pipu asked about 1.0 and 1.5 not expensive part and maintenance hybrid engine or underpower 1.2 turbo
Belajar rajin2 dik. Byk lg ilmu yg adik boleh belajar. Selamat maju jaya
(Like) Geely Bin Yue.
(Dislike) Toyota CHR
Proton was born in 1985. Geely was born in 1997. So Proton is more senior.
Why is Geely having so much of success and expertise in car industry when it is 12 years younger than Proton?
Why does Geely make USD$30 billion (RM100 billion) in profits last year and Proton makes RM4 mil in losses per day?
Proton also could have marketed our cars to all over the world and China market as well.
So why are both companies so different?
Are you sure the 30 billions dollar is profit not revenue? Don’t just simply spew lies and misinformation, but I guess honesty is too much to ask from a troll with so many dupes.
Because Geely basically is Volvo.
bcos china got big market, they design one engine can sell to 10 million user, means they can have more fund to innovation new tech
but in malaysia is not, the market is limited
What can you expect from a company surviving on protectionist policies? Same goes to the people which make up the organization.
Sell in mesia dari rm74k …
Hopefully it can come to Malaysia and be sold for RM47k. After all, Geely got local car status and local car tax privilege for just RM170 million. Other car companies like Honda, Toyota and Nissan had invested billions in Malaysia the past 30 years to get local tax privilege.
Geely just paid RM170 million and got local car status and local tax status overnight
Okay what? C-HR sell u RM 150k.
So that cancel C-HR booking can get 2 units X50.
cannot just 74k, need to include shipping cost from china, or you have to wait ckd version
Hmmm, while Proton – Ricardo 1.5L turbo engine can churns out 180bhp and 250Nm (if it is still in existence) seems like a better deal than Geely-Volvo 1.5L engine which gives out 174 hp and 255.
Geely-Volvo 1.0 & 1.5L engine are both turbocharged
Geely-Volvo engine well known for good FC
I bet you think even 181bhp 250nm torque is better than 179bhp 260nm, just saying.
Not every bhp count but see the torque number as well, dumbass.
XC40 for RM50k…
By the time all the right hand versions of geely sedan and suv and mpv arrive,Protiga is just being launched perhaps with its maiden model.
The pie has not grown, and with new entrants like protiga, everyone just have a smaller bite and smaller pie.
Based on the excellent performance by Li Chunrong, we should get more Li Chunrongs to come into Malaysia and run other GLCs also.
Our productivity will tenfold and we will overtake Singapore in 5 years time.
I hope more CEOs like Li Chunrong come and run our GLCs and also Putrajaya as well
Day dreaming
So CRV, CX 5 , Tiguan, X Trail can also get at RM 30K
X2 , GLA and Q3 also between RM 45 to RM 50K
What a nice dream to be real.
Next year definitely Proton Bin Yue will sell more than Toyota Innova.
As I said, this car will do very well in Malaysia. Proton is on the way to recovery thanks solely to China brains and hard work.
Thank you China for saving Proton.
Correct! We need China to come save our country from PH!
Agreed!
Pergggh merecik recik mcm xc40 murah
If this would sell here the RM47k will become RM147k.
Why? because of taxes to protect Proton & Perodua of course
Lolz! U do realise if it comes here, it will come as a P1. So based on ur logic, it wud be priced expensively to protek itself against… itself? Lolz!
Poor Proton, now become rebadged Geely. I wonder why our own Protons cannot sell nd we have to sell China car in Malaysia
30 years of automotive gone down the drain
You mean like Perodua? 25 years of continuous rebadging unsafe cars.
Caveman here went into hibernate during Wira era and only just recently came out from his cave. Kesian.
dey wake up la… waht year are u living in? 2000?
proton = geely. stupid.
Lol, bajet pandai but zero knowledge
This is smaller class than X70 (Boyue).. some source say price might start from RM90k.. how come Bin Yue (X40?) start from RM145k?
If you noticed, Proton always price its cars one segment lower than Japanese competitors especially if it’s a rebadge. Example C-Segment car at B-Segment price point.
So, do you think they will price it same as a Perodua Myvi or around Honda Jazz price point?
If they price it around Honda Jazz price point, Honda can say ‘top-up abit more & get Japanese build’. Perodua will say ‘buy Myvi, much cheaper’. Geely/Proton gets more profit from higher price. Win-win situation for all, except the consumer of course who have to pay more.
But if they price it around Perodua Myvi price point, Perodua sales will drop due to you can get a better product at the same price. Honda & other Japanese car sales will also drop due to you can get a similar product at half the price.
Do you think Perodua, Honda & UMW (the current market leaders) or others is going to sit around and let Geely/Proton price it low? Nope, not when Perodua, Honda & UMW are related to the Government in one way or another.
Those people who are in control of Perodua, Honda & UMW will never let it happen as it affect their pockets the most, where it hurts.
Don’t you see it? They or the Government have created an artificial price bracket so every player (National, Japanese, Europeans) have a place. The car sellers are happy with their profit and the Government is happy with the extra taxes. The consumers suffer in the end due to lack of true price competition between the car sellers. Imagine if the playing field was levelled with the same tax rate for all car sellers (National, Japanese, Europeans), the consumers will get the best pricings due to the competition. You would be able to see the fabled 30% car price reduction finally.
Remember, they haven’t release the pricing of the Proton X70 yet you know.
one of the best comments i’ve ever read in PT. another thing people dont realise, is that toyota japan is the biggest winner in the malaysian car market. they practically control everything.. via umw/perodua/daihatsu, umw toyota/lexus. They practically have over 70% of the malaysian market collectively. just my non-scientific analysis.. someone please correct me if i’m wrong.
In another words, Toyota Japan one way or another have been screwing Malaysian customers for a very long time either by selling unsafe outdated cars (via Perodua & low segment Toyota) or markup the prices kawkaw (via higher end Toyota & Lexus). It’s time to throw them out of the country!
Bin Yue
Bae Yue
Not yet, Proton Malaysia will also give to the customer about what is the name of the model for new Proton MPV as people will vote whether wanted to use for example: Bin Yue or Bae Yue. It will be the same method as what Proton Company has done about new Proton SUV before launching this year like for example: whether they wanted to use X70 or X7000 or X700
Proton will sell well. Everybody buys it because they trust Proton and won’t buy Perodua and Toyota for sure as Perodua lacks safety features. While Toyota Service is very terrible nowadays including there are many recalls about Toyota CH-R. Not only that, including other Toyota models have exploded airbags. Anyway Proton X70 and Proton Bin Yue will surely doing sell well than Perodua Alza, Bezza, Axia and Toyota Camry. Now John Minum Teh 8X and Pilihan Kalah Teri’s are obviously hiding today
How u know proton service better?
HE refer to recent J.D Power result. U dunno?
Bro, he will have to read from JD Power CSI 2018 Malaysia first then after that the username known as ‘ivan’ will know what’s the result for JD Power CSI 2018 Malaysi. Anyway, I agreed with you bro.
you check from the website: (https://paultan.org/2018/07/11/proton-outlines-quality-after-sales-improvement-initiatives-aims-to-top-csi-rankings-within-three-years/) as this is actually an evidence
the dashboard of geely is always over-designed for a car its caliber but i don’t hate it.
Don’t expect Proton to launch CKD till 2020 (very late 2019 at the earliest). New Tanjung Malim plant will only be operational after September 2019, so earliest CKD be early 2020.
Sincerely hope Proton will not use the prolong teasing marketing for this SUV. As it is, many are fed up with the X70 marketing style. Tease so long now (2 months already). Worse still, the only info being released recently are GIF pictures on Proton FB. Come on lah, budget sudah habis ke?
2 month ok what…toyota overhype chr tease, roadshow everywhere for more than a year before selling in Malaysia.
2 month is short.. Even Geely tease Bin Yue more than 6 month.
So fedup until 10,000 booked it. If not fedup, sure will have 30,000 alredi paid deposit. So fedup with this.
Correct Bro
The level of equipments are superb! Quick bring it here
Outwards veli much like smaller vers of Boyue. Inside, the floating HU is same like Mesidis previous gen, but central square aircon vents looks veli old skool. The red dashtop, better if change to dark brown or grey. Much prefer Boyue more fluid but matured look instead.
woh, really nice looking
Great partnership between Geely and Volvo. Proton in good hand. Proton slowly and surely rise but with a major improvement.
Go PROTON!!!
If this comes to Malaysia, I rather have it with a Geely badge than with a Proton badge.
Sure. U can even stick on Lexus badges if u like.
Volvo badges better….hahaha
Prancing moose badge hnngghh
dont forget to put AMG, NiSMO, M badges
Price same like myvi 1.3.. our car prices are just nonsense.
Malaysia > all
Woahhhh Proton X70 on cheap cars in China,, I am SUPER curious why in Malaysia price up?
LOL
That Boyue brader aka X70.. this Bin Yue diff class n model
MY pipu malas nak baca nowadays. Kesian.
If this price bring in Malaysia… Honda Toyota Nissan consider close shop..
Nice. Would be hit in M’sia as well.
WHEN IS BIN YUE COMING TO MALAYSIA???
WHEN IS BOYUE PRICE COMING ?
2019 or 2020. Dr. Li says one model intro per year at moment.
This car design with this price, sure can hot sell here woh…
Both 1.5L and 1.0L turbo engines enjoy RON95 subsidy here.
now put that 1.0t and 6 speed manual in the iriz!
traffic jammed, then will regret.
ride a bike if you’re scared of traffic while in a car with a stick shift
If you’re scared of traffic jam, better don’t drive. Seriously, if don’t know the basic of driving manual, they shouldn’t be allowed to drive on the road especially in Malaysia where Malaysian drivers are generally dickheads that need to be pulled out from the road.
At last. Proton has hope to VS with Hrv and Chr.
Have to mention Volvo in everything they do. Otherwise no one would take a second look. Just like any food that China company made… must mention US FDA.
Is Geely baoteng x50 a luxury premium car?
Qualify for monthly RON95 fuel subsidy?
Irrelevant. RM47k can only buy Iriz 1.3 executive
it should be at least 47k+30%…
Cannot be, should be RM47k+20k=RM67k
If proton can sell at the same price here, no doubt, it will be a hot sales.
If proton rebadge this, and price it properly. This will a awesome killer for hrv and ch…….oh wait chr doesnt even need any killing
C-HR is rare on the road but still got one person here promote can see a lot of C-HR on the road.
Can’t wait for this P1’s baby SUV to come. Sure will get one.
I’m still waiting Paul Tan to report regarding Proton-Ricardo engines. What happened to the project with huge investment on it.
Like the 4 cylinder engines than three. Hahaha….
Geely Bin Yue measures 4,330 mm long, 1,800 mm wide and 1,609 mm tall, with a 2,600 mm wheelbase. 1.0 litre engine with 134 hp and 205 Nm of torque. 78,800 yuan
Toyota C-HR measures 4,360 mm long, 1,795 mm wide and 1,565 mm tall, with a 2,640 mm wheelbase. 1.8 litre engine with 138 hp and 171 Nm of torque. RM 150,000.00
If Proton X50 (Geely Bin Yue) selling RM 78,800, expensive or cheap?
Ohhh..Nama ayah geely “yue” rupanya…
Launch here. 50k – 60k. Our new god car.
If this car come to M’sia and sell for 47k, then bye bye Myvi…
Laaaa baru tahu… anak si Yue rupanya…
funny to see the comparison between geely and proton.
1 q, what is the population of china as oppose to malaysia?
Shut up, this about companies. Why asked about population?
Bcos volvo sweden only 10mil population
The poor customer satisfaction & owners feedback on Boyue in China may affect the sales of this new SUV. It remains to been seen whether this model will make it to the top China sales in the coming months.
Pure GDI engine… will have heavy carbon deposit on the intake valve and it’s a very costly repair. If it’s combination of Direct-injection & port-injection, it is really worth considering.
If this car comes to Msia Geely need to sell it and not Proton
As a P2 fan. I can say time to cancel your Aruz bookings
No PHEV?? Oh well. I better spend my money elsewhere.
Will it be AWD?
