Moving into the second generation since its introduction in 2010 is the 2019 Ducati Diavel 1260. Production has begun at the Borgo Panigale works in Bologna and the new Diavel 1260 in base and ‘S’ versions is expected to be in Ducati dealer showrooms in February.

Now carrying the Testastretta DVT 1260 with Desmodromic Variable Timing, the Diavel’s V-twin mill displaces 1,262 cc and produces 159 hp at 9,500 rpm – North Americans get 157 hp – and 129 Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm. The liquid-cooled, twin-spark power plant gets power to the ground via six-speeds, slipper clutch and chain final drive, compared to the XDiavel which uses a belt.

Seating position on the Diavel is more upright with foot controls placed in the middle position as opposed to the XDiavel’s feet-forward foot pegs. Seat height is a low (for Ducati) 780 mm and ride-away wet weight is listed at 244 kg, rolling on a 240 mm wide rear tyre mounted on a 8.0″ x 17″ alloy wheel.

Ducati’s legendary trellis frame holds everything together, including the 50 mm diameter adjustable upside-down forks and rear monoshock which is adjustable for preload and rebound on the base Diavel 1260. The Diavel 1260 S gets upgraded to 48 mm diameter Ohlins upside-down forks and Ohlins fully-adjustable monoshock as well as an up-and-down quickshifter.

Braking is done by Brembo, with M4.32 callipers for the base Diavel while the Diavel S gets Brembo M50 Monoblocs. Bosch Cornering ABS Evo is standard for both versions of the Diavel 1260 along with a full suite of riding aids including traction control and ride modes.

The Diavel S also gets backlit handlebar switches, LED daytime running lights and depending on market, the Ducati Multimedia system with connects the rider’s smartphone to the 3.5-inch TFT-LCD colour screen. While the Diavel gets alloy hoops, the Diavel S gets machined accents on the Marchesini wheels.

There is only one colour option for the 2019 Ducati Diavel 1260 – Sandstone Grey, while the Diavel 1260 S comes in Sandstone Grey of Thrilling Black/Dark Stealth. In Malaysia the current model XDiavel retails at RM148,900 and the XDiavel S goes for RM169,900 while the last listed price available for the 2017 Ducati Diavel Diesel was RM149,999.
