Given that a vehicle purchase is typically the second largest expenditure for most people, many will lavish great care upon their cars, with some personalisation to boot. What might be your first port of call – a bodykit, engine upgrades, maybe a fruitier exhaust, an exterior wrap or a new set of wheels?
The first upgrade one should make to a car is the tyres. This is especially important if you’ve bought a used or grey-import car, as you don’t know just how long the tyres have been sitting there on the showroom floor. It’s likely that they haven’t been used for quite a while, and this may have caused the tyres to harden, thus giving significantly less grip on the road.
These pre-used tyres may still look good, have a healthy amount of thread left, and even still be fairly new (from the date of manufacture printed on the tyres themselves), but just a few months of sitting around, not being used is enough to affect the characteristics of the tyre compound. A set of hardened tyres give out less grip and may result in inconsistent handling, making your vehicle tricky to control in emergency situations.
Tyres, after all, are the only contact points between your car and the road. So if you’re considering upgrades for your car, new or current, get new, good quality tyres first, like the Toyo Proxes Sport.
I hope no Japanese fanboys will say the right way to upgrade the car performance is to add GT wing, racing stripes, TRD badges, LED undercar lighting and fengtau music pumped all the way up.
This is very good advice. Especially to those who take loans up to their neck when in reality they have no real money to buy fancy cars.
Buy a car that you can afford as this will enable you to buy good and safe tyres. No point showing off your cars when you tayar is botak. You risk your life as well as the lives of others on the road.
What you have described are the things a ricer would put on his car.
Give way. stock Myvees flashing high beam
Toyo soft rubber tyres wear out pretty fast. Better overall perf with Continentals
Michelins are pretty good too.
For Pilot Sport range only not the Energy XM.
There was once a unit of my car silverstone tyre(still have 70% thread) puncture beyond repair and i’d try to scout for a replacement unit around whole Kampar(at least 7-10shops) and nearby but failed. I was shocked to found out Silverstone tyre was Perak made yet no shops in whole Kampar and nearby area have them….. NEVER EVER SIMPLY BUY TYRE!!!! ONLY PICK EASILY SOURCE UNITS like from G# Brand, M# Brand or C# Brands….
It is because after TOYO taken over Silverstone they systematically killed the Silverstone brand in favour of the Toyo brand. Gone were the legendary Silverstone Centepede off road tires (which is sought after in australia and europe), FTZ semi slick tires, and the whole range of track and rally tires.
Silverstone are mostly OEM for new cars. Not surprise why you can’t find them at most shops. Even I don’t carry Silverstone in my shop.
Maxxis tyre best .
While i agree with u on ‘Never ever simply buy tyre’ i disagree with u on ‘onlynpick easily source unit’. its conflicting with your first statement.
Tires are complicated and most of the time overrated by brand like Toyota Vios all these while. For example an entry level M# brand which command premium pricing will be outperformed by H# brand with lower pricing.
An average wannabe will die2 go for M# entry level and drives like crazy claiming that entry model is superb handler due to placebo effect of having M# written on the sidewall when alternative reputable brand is cheaper and will perform better.
One wise uncle told me.once, don’t buy a car and make it fast , just buy a fast car
It’s like saying don’t marry a wife and had a kids, just get a woman with a kid ready.
Dont be stupid. This is car we are talking about. Not human. Woman have feelings.
More like don’t marry a wife that needs lot of make up, just marry a beautiful wife.
Then again, all fast cars can be made faster with some wise upgrades.
An advertisement… but a good advise though.
EXACTLY …
I want a fruity exhaust!
What an ad. Thought it would be a list or something.
For me, I’d go for both handling and engine performance upgrades, such as grippier tyres, lower suspension setup, anti-roll bars, cold air intakes and exhaust system that can boost overall performance of the car itself..
For civic, only got Toyo PROXES CF2. It’s about RM400 a piece.
That’s it? Clearly a Toyo ad. But since you are changing new set of tyres, why not throw in new wheels with an inch or two size upgrade.
The best way to start? Is not to start. Plain simple. You want performance, you buy a performance car straight. Don’t give me that “joy in modding cars” mantra. We all know those are endless money pits that will eventually break the life out of you. It’s like turning chicken chop to wagyu steak….
I see he holding a fake wheel like BBS .
What do you mean ? Stickers and stripes are easily worth 20-30bhp. Trust me.
Lol.. it’s a marketing advert…
