The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) has released vehicle sales data for the month of October 2023, which saw a total of 74,896 vehicles delivered to buyers. This represents a 10% increase from September 2023 (68,156 units) and brings the year-to-date (YTD) total to 646,840 units, which is 12% higher than the corresponding period last year.
The association pointed out that the strong growth in total industry volume (TIV) was contributed mostly by national makes (Proton and Perodua). It added that October 2023 marks the third time this year that monthly TIV exceeded the 70,000-unit mark.
As for production, the figure stood at 74,191 units in October 2023, which is 25.8% more than the same month in 2022. The YTD production total is currently at 640,633 units, or 13% more than the first ten months in 2022 that saw 567,752 units.
For November 2023, the association expects figures to be similar to what was seen in October 2023. This year’s TIV forecast is set at 725,000 units, and with two months left in the year, it is likely this will be achieved.
