Govt studying new highway linking Putrajaya, Pahang

A new highway linking the east and west coasts of Peninsular Malaysia might be coming soon. According to deputy works minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, the KKR is studying a new highway between Putrajaya and Pahang. He said the study aims to find an alternative route between the east coast and KL to reduce congestion on the Karak Highway (KLK).

“The primary goal is to find solutions to complete the connectivity of the Central Spine Road (Lingkaran Tengah Utama) and improve the connectivity of the KLK.

“Among the factors being considered now include the use of land, with the road possibly passing through permanent forest reserves; its environmental, traffic, social and economic impact,” he said in parliament yesterday, reported by The Star.

“The study is expected to be completed by August 12 next year after it began earlier this year in August,” the Pontian MP said, adding that the study had been allocated RM2.5 million and was already approved under the fourth rolling plan of the 12th Malaysia Plan.

Ahmad Maslan said that if the works ministry eventually gives the green light, the highway would be built under a build-operate-transfer contract, which grants a concession to a private company to finance, build and operate a project for a period of 20 to 30 years before handing the highway back to the government.

What do you think of a new highway linking the south of the Klang Valley to the east coast as an alternative to the Karak Highway (widening project starting in January 2025) and LPT?
