Wuling is officially the first Chinese brand to realise EV battery production in Indonesia, with Car News China reporting that the first unit of the company’s Magic Battery (Shenlian in Chinese) rolled off the production line on the last day of 2024, crediting SGMW, Shautonews, Yiche and EET China.
First announced in Jakarta on September 20, 2024, the RMB40 million (RM25 million) project took 4.5 months from initiation to production. The LFP Magic Battery’s vitals include a peak power over 300 kW (408 PS), an energy density over 165 Wh/kg, a charge and discharge efficiency over 96%, and a lifespan over 6,500 cycles.
The internal structure of the battery cells has been redesigned with L-shaped tabs instead of the usual U-shape to minimise the risk of internal short-circuiting, and the battery itself is ceramic-coated to prevent thermal runaway. Also, its intelligent battery management system is developed in-house.
Wuling is entering its eighth year in Indonesia, where it sold 13,492 new energy vehicles (NEV) in 2024 (+27% year-on-year), and cumulatively, 28,768 NEVs (giving it a 40% cumulative market share) since the 2022 domestic launch of the Air EV.
SAIC-GM-Wuling has launched nine models since it entered Indonesia in 2017. Last year, SAIC-GM-Wuling Indonesia sold 24,244 vehicles (-3.3% vs 2023) and it will continue to use Indonesia as a right-hand drive production hub for Southeast Asia, CNC reports.
Not that we’d be getting it anytime soon, but if you’re curious about how the cute little Wuling Air EV drives, give Danny’s review a read.

This is the worrying part.
Wow 6500 cycles. That is millions of KM. Lets say 1 month charge 8 times from 0-100% (most will charge 1 time only), 1 year = 8 X 12 = 96 cycle a year only. This battery will last practically longer than the driver. Lol
