UMW Toyota sells over 100k vehicles for 3rd year running, but 2024 sales down 5.4% to 102,300 units

Toyota remains the top non-national brand in Malaysia, with distributor UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) announcing it has surpassed 100,000 sales for the third year straight. However, the actual figure from 2024 has fallen 5.4% from the record 108,107 vehicles it sold the previous year, at over 102,300 units.

Just as with Proton, UMWT’s drop in sales comes despite an increase in total industry volume (TIV), projected to crack the 800,000 unit mark for the first time. A strong December helped the company get over the line with over 12,800 units sold, helped by the continued popularity of models like the Hilux, Vios and Corolla Cross – the latter getting a facelift the same month.

In its succinct press release, UMWT also reported that some 1.42 million customers returned to its after-sales network last year, which it says showcases “Toyota’s commitment to prioritising innovation, quality, and customer satisfaction.” It also promises to enter 2025 “committed to achieving excellence by ensuring the best offerings for their customers and stakeholders.”
