PDRM to run Op Selamat 23 from January 28 to February 2 for 2025 Chinese New Year festive season

The traffic investigation and enforcement department (JSPT) of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has announced that Op Selamat 23 will commence on January 28, 2025 and will be in effect until February 2, 2025 over the Chinese New Year festive season nationwide.

This iteration of Op Selamat will focus upon six major traffic offences which have been identified as contributors to road accidents during festive seasons, according to PDRM. The six offences are exceeding the speed limit, unauthorised use of the emergency lane, overtaking on double solid lines, queue-cutting, disobeying traffic signals, and using telecommunication devices while driving.

All road users are advised to obey traffic rules and laws for the safety of all around, PDRM said in its statement posted on social media.

Op Selamat 23 follows Op Selamat 22, which was run in conjunction with the 2024 Hari Raya Aidilfitri season, and it appears the operation has seen to a slight reduction in road accidents by 1.41%, compared to the Hari Raya season of the previous year.

It remains little cause for celebration, as that still leaves 8,862 accidents in 2024 versus 8,989 cases in 2023, of which 105 cases were fatal (a 10% drop from 117 cases in 2023).
