According to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA), a total of 68,007 vehicles were sold to customers in the month of May 2025. This represents a 12.4% increase from the month of April 2025, which saw 60,527 units delivered.
The association said in its release that the increase is due to the higher number of working days in May compared to April. Other reasons include the continued strong promotion activities by companies as well as deliveries of vehicles from bookings collected in the first quarter of the year.
On a year-over-year (YoY) basis, the May 2025 total is down 3% compared to May 2024 (70,254 units). As for the year-to-date figure, the first five months of 2025 saw 316,737 units sold, which is a decrease of 5% from the 333,309 units reported for the same period in 2024.
Production also saw a decline, with 65,970 units produced in May 2025, down 12% from May 2024 (74,609 units). YTD production in 2025 currently stands at 299,886 units, also a 12% decrease from the corresponding period last year that saw 342,344 units produced.
For the month of June 2025, the association expects sales to be lower than in May 2025 due to the recent Hari Raya Aidiladha that saw major makes shut down their plant for a week.
