Budi95: KPDN has legal authority to inspect consumers’ identity cards when necessary – director

Director of the ministry of domestic trade and cost of living (KPDN), Mohd Sabri Seman said that the ministry has the legal authority to inspect consumers’ identity cards to ensure smooth implementation of the Budi Madani RON 95 petrol subsidy (Budi95) the subsidised petrol control system (SKPS), reported Bernama.

This is to prevent identity misuse, with ID checks to be carried out only when necessary, as a reasonable control and preventive measure, Mohd Sabri said, adding that extensive monitoring is being conducted at all licensed petrol stations in Kuala Lumpur in conjunction with the full rollout of the Budi95 targeted subsidy programme.

“In line with KPDN’s focus on strengthening enforcement through risk management and digital integration, 101 Kuala Lumpur enforcement officers have been deployed for inspections. To date, 196 petrol stations have been inspected with no issues detected and no complaints have been received regarding SKPS implementation at any petrol station in the city,” Mohd Sabri said.

The KPDN director said that fuel purchases made through the SKPS and Budi95 schemes are digitally and transparently recorded, to enable faster and more effective monitoring to detect suspicious activity such as repeated or unusually large purchases.

“This approach also helps prevent manipulation and leakages along the petrol supply chain, effectively curbing smuggling practices that occurred in the past, said Mohd Sabri.
