Genting Malaysia Berhad will soon impose charges on vehicles entering Jalan Genting Highlands, according to a statement issued by Resorts World Genting.
The move to impose a private road charge was necessary due to the steep and escalating costs of maintaining the 24 km-long private road and its slopes, which Genting Malaysia Berhad states has been borne solely by the company since the 1960s, the company stated.
Heavy usage of Jalan Genting Highlands has resulted in a “tremendous amount of wear and tear”, and requires constant maintenance to ensure the safety of the road users, according to Genting Malaysia.
“This is a private initiative on a private road on private land. Genting Malaysia takes the responsibility of maintaining the safety of both the roads and the slopes seriously,” the statement read.

Private Road Charge to Support Road Safety and Sustainability on Jalan Genting Highlands
13 November 2025 – Genting Malaysia Berhad would like to confirm that there will be charges for vehicles entering Jalan Genting Highlands at a date to be announced. More information will follow once details are ready on this private road charge (Caj Jalan Persendirian).
The private road charge is necessary due to the steep and escalating costs of maintaining the 24-km private road and its slopes which have been borne solely by us since the 1960s. Privately built by Genting Malaysia on difficult and mountainous terrain, Jalan Genting Highlands provides safe access to Resorts World Genting as well as mountainside destinations other than those of Genting Malaysia.
Heavy usage on Jalan Genting Highlands have caused a tremendous amount of wear and tear, and requires constant maintenance to ensure the safety of the road users. On the “user pays” principle, the private road charge is the most sustainable path to defray the cost of upkeep, repairs, maintenance and other unforeseen incidents.
This is to ensure the road continues to be safe for all users, and provide access to the entire Genting Highlands community, businesses, millions of tourists and members of the public from all over the country.

Working on mountainous terrain is challenging, hazardous and expensive, but it is essential to ensure the safety of the road and the slopes for continuous improvement for all users. This crucial road has catalysed the tourism industry here, contributing opportunities for enterprise and employment, creating a vibrant local economy and contributing to the Pahang state economy as well as the national economy. Say,they dont make or break even due to covid plus minus 5 years..but remember last 40 years since Goh Tong founded Genting,they have been making tons of money.Just 5 not so good years compared to 4 decades..do your math.They still make money.

Uh oh… this opens up tolling on every roads now. Even my kampung road will soon be tolled, taman-taman, etc that developers say that’s private road. Habis la…
if the road belongs to private company or individual ownership then yes they have the right to impose toll, or at least to block access for public.
Read properly, I said “private road”. Now imagine more with your brain. Developer says “sell” me these roads to the taman and we put a toll and charge all vehicles, you half and I half, all happy go teh tarik. Rakyat suffers then sell car and walk or public bus.
cannot simply alienate existing roads which are already gazetted . there will be legal and procedureal blocks . simply doing so will invite a lot of scrutiny and uproar. genting road is a different legacy case which was decades ago furthermore genting road didnt exist beforehand it was genting themselves who constructed it.
Simply tell with honesty that wan to increase source of income as mite be gambling biz is shaking upside down, 1960 built and now only realise that it wants heavy maintenance, as consumer already paying triple price (average )of whatever we use
orang mesia ni, kalau bende tu wujud sejak dulu, dia ok je. kalau nak start sekarang, semua nak buat bising. tol PLUS dulu kata cuma untuk dapatkan pulangan kos binaan, lepas tu tak lupus pun. tapi tak buat bising. jalan genting ni jalan persendirian. suka hati lah dia nak buat tol. tak orang paksa kau pakai pun jalan itu.
Because they know malaysians will forget after making some noise for some time, say 6 months? Then things will be back as usual as if nothing happened.
because this toll literally doenst affect the vast majority of malaysians, unlike say PLUS NSE toll which has to paid by grandfather era till grandchild era if they want to drive around malaysia.
Genting becoming like Las Vegas. Pay and Pay. Want to go up, pay. Want to park, pay. Want to eat, pay extra. Maybe next time got casino fee, resort fee or some funny fee to squeeze more money.

Genting must be no money already la… they are also going to delist in Bursa and they are making losses after they took over Empire Resorts in New York.

First parking now toll. Can charge those who gamble only? Not everyone going to genting to gamble hence shouldn’t add so much extra cost to the visitors
you’re missing the point. The tols are for free-loaders, meaning people who convoy or race up Genting roads for fun, and does not intend to use the facilities in Genting. Causing accidents, jams. Genting is a private property, the roads going up Genting is also private road. Patrons of the casino and genting parks are the ones they want to keep, not those free-loaders who drive up and down racing for no reason.
Should still be able to park at Goh Tong Jaya & ride Skyway cable car up the rest of the way. No need to further stress own vehicle with steeper hill climb. If still not happy, can go to Fraser’s or Cameron..
guess what , skyway also costs a lot of money per person .
They better resurface the entire road after this toll is implemented.
