The works ministry has not received any proposals Genting Malaysia regarding toll fare collection or any new charges to be imposed for access to areas privately owned by the company, reported Bernama.
No official application has been submitted by the company, said works minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, who also commented on the statement made by deputy works minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan which suggested that the term “entry charge” be used instead of “toll” to avoid public confusion.
“I agree with his suggestion because the term ‘toll’ can be confusing. We are used to toll being associated with highways. So, I think the term ‘entry charge’ is easier to understand,” Nanta said.
Last week, Genting Malaysia announced that it will soon impose charges on vehicles entering Jalan Genting Highlands, stating that the move was necessary due to the steep and escalating costs of maintaining the 24 km-long private road and its slopes, which the it said has been borne solely by the company since the 1960s.
Heavy usage of Jalan Genting Highlands has resulted in a “tremendous amount of wear and tear”, and requires constant maintenance to ensure the safety of the road users, the company said in its statement.
Following the company’s announcement of imposing charges, the Pahang government said that it hopes that these charges will take into account the interests and welfare of local residents.

remember that genting road did not exist beforehand, it was constructed by genting themselves.
Of course, how else would they let people access their businesses. Regardless, suggested “entry charge” naming would better reflect who own the area.
This is like employees
supposed to serve the company,
nowadays, company needs to “kowtow”
to the employees and pay them salary
The genting road exists to funnel people up to the casino where Genting has turned over billions of ringgit if not more. You can’t tell me they don’t know how to budget for the cost of doing business without nickel and diming everyone who goes/lives there? Itu wang bazir kat mana?
Agreed. This ain’t road toll, more appropriate name as Entry Fee same like worldwide tourist spot standard entry fee collection
Anthony Loke please resign NOW!!!
yes because Loke is works minister, no wait he isnt
It’s private road; it’s at their discretion to impose whatever fees deemed necessary for the upkeep of the private road.
What the minister means is Genting can charge dulu then sagat the works minister with undertable to pass it. This is PH after all. $$ Passing Hands.
