For 2026, the BMW i5’s main update is local assembly for the eDrive40 M Sport Pro, making it the first CKD BMW EV in Malaysia and cutting RM32,000 from its previous price. The current range has two variants: the rear-driven eDrive40 M Sport Pro and the higher-powered M60 xDrive. The M60 continues as the performance model, with 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and up to 516 km of range.

Which variant to buy
Most buyers should take the eDrive40 M Sport Pro at RM368,800. It has the same 83.9 kWh battery as the M60 xDrive, a longer 627 km range and 335 hp, which is already plenty for an executive EV. The M60 xDrive costs RM479,800, so the RM111,000 gap buys xDrive and much more power at 592 hp, but range drops to 516 km. Pay more only if the extra performance matters.

Verdict
The i5 works because it keeps the 5 Series brief intact while switching to electric drive. The eDrive40 is the sensible one: long range, lower price after CKD assembly and enough output for daily use. But it is still not a cheap EV sedan; the Volvo ES90 starts lower, and a Tesla Model 3 costs far less. The M60 is quick, but its price and shorter range make it the more specific choice.
