  What’s better than the joy of having a shiny new premium car in the porch? How about that and a luxury holiday worth RM25,000? That’s what Ng Leong Teck is going to enjoy, as he was named the lucky draw grand prize winner in the inaugural paultan.org Premium Auto Car Expo (PACE) 2018 powered by Petron Blaze 100 Euro 4M.

  Ng came to PACE 2018 with interest in another vehicle, but was convinced by a friend to purchase a Mercedes-Benz GLC 200 from Hap Seng Star, the Mercedes-Benz dealership that was represented at the event. Amazingly, Ng’s friend bought the same SUV himself!

  Ng was one of the first 100 customers to book a car at PACE, which earned him a combined RM2,000 voucher including a RM500 Petron fuel voucher, RM500 Kuziq Glanz car detailing voucher, RM500 Stigo mini electric bike voucher and a RM500 voucher for Llumar’s new Self-Healing Paint Protection Film Door Cups.

  

  PACE 2018 took place from November 3-4 last year at the Setia Alam Convention Centre. Almost 20,000 visitors came through the doors over the weekend to visit the sales event, which was like a multi-brand premium showroom with a carnival setting. Most of the visitors were readers of this website, because 90% of the marketing, promotion and publicity for PACE 2018 was done on Driven’s own platforms – paultan.org and CarBase.my.

  Over two days, 214 cars worth over RM50 million were sold at PACE. Of this, 180 units were brand new cars and 34 were from the pre-owned selection. Hap Seng Star sold 79 Mercedes-Benz cars, while BMW and MINI dealership Wheelcorp Premium sold 54 units, big numbers in the premium context.

  Most of the cars sold were mainstream premium sedans and SUVs, but among the list were two Volkswagen Golf Rs, plus a couple of Mercedes-AMG models and BMW 740Le plug-in hybrid limos. The total amount of cars sold was double the target, and 70% of the buyers named paultan.org as their main reference for all things automotive.

  

  Sales aside, premium makes chose PACE 2018 to conduct new model introductions and previews. The Audi Q2 and second-generation Audi Q5 SUVs made their first official Malaysian appearance at the show, and so did the Jaguar E-Pace compact SUV and the Volkswagen Arteon flagship sedan.

  “We would like to congratulate Mr Ng for winning the grand prize, and we hope he would enjoy it as much as he’s already enjoying his new car! We were completely amazed by the results of PACE 2018, as we exceeded all internal targets in terms of the crowd and of course, total number of vehicles sold. We would like to thank everyone for the overwhelming support, and hope that this year’s show will be just as successful,” said Hafriz Shah, head of content at Driven.

  The show will be back this year and PACE 2019 will be returning to Setia Alam Convention Centre on the weekend of November 2-3.   To say that it exceeded all our expectations would be understating it. The inaugural paultan.org Premium Auto Car Expo (PACE) 2018 powered by Petron Blaze 100 Euro 4M surpassed our targets in terms of cars sold, value of vehicles sold, test drives and visitors; and we at Driven would like to thank all our partners and readers for your invaluable support – we are truly humbled, thank you.

  Readers? Most of the almost 20,000 visitors who came through Setia Alam Convention Centre’s doors over the November 3-4 weekend were readers of paultan.org, and we know this not just from surveys, but because 90% of the the marketing, promotion and publicity for PACE was done on Driven’s own platforms – mainly on paultan.org and CarBase.my.

  To be honest, there was a degree of risk with this approach as opposed to casting a wider net (radio, outdoor, social media), but we decided to put full faith in the size and strength of our audience.

  

  PACE is a sales show – think of it as a multi-brand premium showroom with a carnival setting – so the quantity of visitors alone wasn’t enough. We, and the exhibitors, needed quality. We needed people to buy cars at PACE, to do their year-end car shopping (whether actual or window) at PACE.

  We knew from the first few hours of the show that all the hard work done setting up the event and marketing it in-house would pay off. We expected an easy Saturday morning and a growing stream of visitors after lunch, but the pre-lunch crowd on Saturday (some were even waiting for the gates to open) was encouraging. By the end of the first day, we’d have achieved our internal targets for the entire weekend.

  The final tally is 214 cars worth over RM50 million sold. Of this, 180 units were new cars and 34 were from the pre-owned selection. The total amount of cars sold was double our target, and 70% of the buyers named paultan.org as their main reference for all things automotive. Mercedes-Benz, via official dealer Hap Seng Star, sold 79 cars over the weekend, while BMW and MINI dealer Wheelcorp Premium sold 54 units, big numbers in the premium context.

  

  

  Of course, the mainstream premium sedans and SUVs attracted the most attention (along with the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class) but among the cars sold were two Volkswagen Golf Rs, and a couple of AMG models and BMW 740Le plug-in hybrid limos. And wait for this, a Kia Stinger too!

  The amount, value and variety of cars sold at PACE confirms the size and quality of paultan.org‘s reach – Malaysia’s number one automotive website is followed daily by true car buyers and car enthusiasts alike.

  We’re happy to report that the exhibitors are satisfied with the sales garnered from PACE, but there could be more to come as the seeds have been planted, so to speak. Test drives from all participating brands ran throughout the weekend – Mercedes-Benz, for instance, recorded over 310 test drives at PACE, which is Hap Seng Star’s highest ever test drive tally over one weekend.

  

  

  

  

  Another vote of confidence came in the form of new model introductions and previews. The new Audi Q2 and second-generation Audi Q5 made their first official Malaysian appearance at PACE, where visitors were the among the first in the country to touch and feel the SUVs, which will be launching soon. Also making their debut were the Jaguar E-Pace and Volkswagen Arteon – expect to see both cars in showrooms next year. The freshly-launched Mercedes-Benz C-Class facelift and A-Class were also on display.

  If pre-owned models are more your style, then the BMW Premium Selection is just for you. A wide range of models are available, including the 118i Sport, 320d, 435i, 528i, 730Li, X1, X3, X6 and the ActiveHybrid 3, starting from as low as RM65,000 and coming with a one-year extended warranty.

  Jaguar Land Rover, meanwhile, is going big with the preview of the new E-Pace SUV, making its debut for the first time in Malaysia. The company is also offering complimentary accessories vouchers worth up to RM5,000, as well as a RM80,000 rebate on a Jaguar XF* and a complimentary expert valuation for those looking to trade in their Jaguar or Land Rover.

  Kia may not be the first thing that comes to people’s minds when they talk about premium brands, but the South Korean company has become a serious player in its own right with the impressive rear-wheel drive Kia Stinger, which will be on display at the event. It will share the stage with the facelifted Optima GT – the refreshed version of the powerful D-segment sedan is also making an appearance here.

  Next up is Lexus, which is offering five years’ free service on the Lexus NX (Urban, Premium or F Sport), RX 300 (Premium, Luxury and F Sport) and RX 350 (Luxury and F Sport). The RX 300 Special Edition will also get the free five-year service package on top of a free aerokit worth RM10,000.

  

  

  

  Those looking to purchase a Mercedes-Benz will be happy to know that Hap Seng Star is giving visitors priority car allocation when they make a booking at the event, as well as a mystery gift for the first 100 customers who take a test drive. Pre-owned car buyers, on the other hand, will receive a one-year extended warranty and will be eligible to take part in a lucky draw to win prizes worth over RM180,000.

  Volkswagen is another brand holding a Malaysian debut of a new model at PACE – the sleek new Arteon. What’s more, customers looking to purchase the Passat will get a RM15,000 rebate for the Comfortline model and a RM4,000 rebate for the Highline, and all bookings will come with a RM2,000 petrol rebate. Buyers will also be able to take advantage of the ongoing SST price protection scheme.
