Perodua, Daihatsu and Akashi-Kikai to establish automatic transmission manufacturing plant in Seremban

Perodua, Daihatsu and Akashi-Kikai to establish automatic transmission manufacturing plant in SerembanSometime last year Perodua revealed plans to manufacture E-AT automatic transmissions in Malaysia. Now Daihatsu Motor Co Ltd has released more details on the timeline and structure of the new company that will undertake the E-AT automatic transmission manufacturing in Malaysia.

The new company Akashi-Kikai Malaysia Sdn Bhd will operate it’s 13,000 square metre plant on a 113,000 square metre plot of land in the Sendayan Industrial Park in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan.

The plant is expected to be ready in November 2013 and will have a production capacity of 150,000 units a year. The stakeholders will put in RM100 million as capital, and the new company is expected to employ approximately 120 people.

Perodua will own approximately 10% of Akashi-Kikai Malaysia, while Daihatsu Motor Co will hold 39% and Akashi-Kikai Industry Co Ltd of Japan holds a 51% majority. Akashi-Kikai Industry Co Ltd is a subsidiary of Daihatsu and currently makes automatic and CVT transmissions for Daihatsu.

1st batch Saga FLX got a recall, those guys in those links must’ve missed it or wrote before the recall. Problem solved after recall and Saga FLX thereafter don’t have that problem.

  • So I guess soon we will see Perodua cars using CVT ? With the cars being very fuel efficient, I guess with CVT. It would be more fuel efficient

Akashi kikai supplies CVT transmission to daihatsu. But in this case, it was clearly stated that they are going to produce E-AT (conventional auto gearbox). By the time they start supplying, i guess E-AT is almost obsolete in most parts of the world. Malaysia is the best place to dump obsolete technologies

My take on this is that it is not as bad as it sounds.

Sure, high tech transmission sounds more appealing. But with the world economy is as it is — west europe & USA are doing very well economically — demands are only growing in the developing countries. Mitsubishi is winding down their european business — demand is low, competition is fierce? — while Great Wall is opening new plant, not in West Europe, but in Bulagria.

In these emerging markets — east europe, south asia, south east asia, latin america, africa — demands are for cheap and cheerful cars. You don’t need high tech there. What you need is cheap and reliable.

In medium term, the plant is going to do well — lots of potential exports. In long term — more than 10 years? — who knows?

      • Hi, it depends on which type of E-AT. Mazda 6 speed is an E-AT, but with enhanced sensors and controls. Even Ford with dual clutch, will be going back to a 8 speed E-AT due to the recent advancement in sensors and controls in transmission area. The newest revision is to be said to match the fuel efficiency of the dual clutch and also maintain the old good attributes (crawling) of the old AT. The main reason of the switchback would be the caused of cost of production and maintenance.

I use persona. .And my wife uses lagi best.then, i think that p1 have to improve the quality control and p2 have to make their own car.that is the fact.then everyone can give a balance criticism to both manufctrers.

will p2 come out with 6 speed auto gearbox? incorporate cvt? that would be improvement on the current models, n further enhance FC. better if upgrade models or new launches by this 24 months to stay in the leading market share. nice to incorporate gate type gear shift too. do some studies n research… but dun take too long

  • P1 and P2 should collaborate. P2 quality is better, please transfer to P1. P1 capability to design and manufacture own car, please transfer to P2. Get to think of it, why not DRB-HICOM buys PERODUA stakes and becomes the No.1 car manufacturer and assembler in Malaysia and fight with others such as ASTRA in Indonesia. We should help each other. We need each other. Our people depends on us to survive and be better than European cars. Through all the egos aside for once and see our future. Even our vendors are hungry to improve with better quality, lower cost and efficient productivity.

Jgn pandai cakap aje… Lets thinks further… warranty involve money… And frankly speaking, malaysian drivers are very EGO… Kadang-kadang salah sendiri pun mintak warranty. Contoh, tak service ikut schedule, minyak kering, air kering, rosak mintak warranty… tipu lagi ada… Semua salah manufacturer… Bayar tak nak.. semua nak free… Ada yang lagi kurang cerdik, tayar pecah sbb kena besi pun mintak ganti. Dont laugh.. it is true and I have faced it before. The mentality of malaysian drivers. Then comment banyak national car… Macamlah kereta import tu tak ada problems. Helooo…. Toyota pun ada recall activities, BMW, Honda you name it.. So look ourself, if only we can afford ntional car… accept the fact. Jgn compare kereta mahal-mahal tapi pakai kereta proton/perodua… pas tu complaint macam2. Very GOOD quality come with big RINGGIT. But still quality cannot be compromise. Surely must be comparable..

  • bro ajaw, enjin mati tiba2 tuh mgkin sbb kpl bateri xkemas pasang, itu ksalahn sales advisor yg spttnya check btl2. Aduan saga blm tuh org yg sama. Lampu cvt menyala, itu kena pastikan samasda lampu cvt@lampu check engine yg nyala lampu cvt kat gear lever, lampu engine kat panel meter,kdg2 org kita cnfius. Klu lampu check engine nyala tiba2 n ilang, mgkin coz kpl bateri xkemas ikat. Klu terus menyala, itu masalah engine, bleh di check dgn alat padt tgk kat mana prob. Mcm kes persona, ecu update utk bug fixes.
