At the ongoing 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, it was announced that the 2015 Honda Civic Type R will hit Japanese dealerships beginning December 7. However, Honda’s iconic hot hatch will be offered in a limited run of just 750 units for domestic consumption – interested parties are advised to submit their order entries to Honda Japan’s website from October 29 to November 23.
Should demand exceed the 750 unit-mark, successful entries will be determined by lot. As far as specifications go, nothing much has changed over the Euro-spec model as the JDM Civic Type R remains powered by a 2.0 litre direct-injection DOHC VTEC Turbo engine with 310 PS and 400 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. Power gets sent to the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.
As for performance figures, the Civic Type R dashes from nought to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds before going on to hit its top speed of 269 km/h. On the outside, the car features a large front bumper replete with a mesh-type layout for improved air intake while an almost-flat underbody and rear diffuser help generate downforce.
Additionally, the Civic Type R sports a massive rear wing along with vented(!) wheel arches – the latter is said to improve cooling. Elsewhere, 19-inch wheels, shod with specially-developed 235/35 Continental tyres, are to be found. Beneath said front wheels lie 350 mm brake discs clamped down by four-piston calipers.
Inside, the Civic Type R features a suitably racy cabin trimmed in a combination of black and red accents. The aggressive front bucket seats feature a black suede-like fabric material and contrasting red stitching while a flat-bottom steering wheel features thinner spokes and a red centre marker for improved drivability.
Depressing the ‘+R’ button, located at the side of the instrument binnacle, further unshackles the Civic Type R – said mode kills the Idle Stop system, remaps itself to provide more torque lower down, cuts assistance on its electric power steering, stiffens the adaptive dampers by 30% and loosens the Vehicle Stability Assist system. The 2015 Honda Civic Type R retails in Japan for 4,280,000 yen (RM152,178).
