Now that was pretty darn quick – right after french magazine L’Automobile magazine posted up a story with full undisguised albeit low-res production photos of the new BMW 5-Series GT 5-door hatchback, a full set of even more photos untainted by watermarks have surfaced on the internet!
But they are still low res of course, we’ll have to wait for the official unveiling for the full hi-res images, which should be very soon, perhaps even in a week’s time.
I still don’t really like how it looks like. The long flowy front seems suddenly interrupted by a short and stubby back. The front end is clearly inspired by the BMW Concept CS, but with all the details toned down significantly. It does share a family face with the new F01 but as I’ve always said, having oversized kidney grilles are fine really if only they are slightly rectangular instead of the F01’s square shape, and here we go, on the F10 with their slightly rectangular shape they look so much better. I can’t wait to see how the F10 sedan looks like.
There are many more photos of the interior in this set, with some showing off the car’s massive panoramic roof that will give the 4 passengers a nice open and airy feel. Yes, the car only seats 4 as there is an armrest cum storage area going through the middle of the two individual seats in the rear, which by the way are said to be reclinable!
Look after the jump for the full set of images.

Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Ugly as h**l. Bring back the svelte lines of the 90's!
This is just another pointless car model..
damn ugly , this project should be canceled !
First…
The front looks wicked and in line with their current design language…
But as Paul said…
The back looks stubby and doesn't seem to fit the overall of the design of the car…
The rear looks a lot like X6 though…
Just my 2 cents…
=)
just bring back Bangle, everyone hate him but he design nice cars..
Instead of kidney grille the new design more akin to PIGNOSE grille.
The back looks like the Lexus 460L
Gen2???? hehehe just kidding :p
The interior is looking pretty good though, especially with the ambient lighting. Probably the best BMW interior of their range so far.
Is it just me or the front head light look almost exactly like Evo X?
my god…..
this is ugly……….
leaked shots?
more like prelaunch promotional pics….
First, ugly
Second, really ugly
What de heck is this?
hey the back sucks ,what a 7 series taillamp on a short ass no way.
it is a sick ugly car.
I like how BMW is (finally) getting back at getting the front to look like a BMW. Manages to strike a fine balance between "new" but still retains the BMW DNA.
The E60/F01 all got thier noses all messed up (and still do) and the E90 went a bit too conservative.
Paul,
I think the 4 seat arrangement is an option, since I see some shots with 3 abreast seating (clue the 3rd middle headrest)
That said, this is a really pointless model…. as with the X6….
Gen-2 on steroids. The headlamp is a reminisience of Lancer.
yuck!! worst car ever for bmw..
the exterior is hideous but the interior is rly nice, put the interior into the current 5 series shell will be even nicer
its a hatchback version of the new 5 i guess, prefer bmw's older and current design 5 and 7, the current 3 is already hideous.. new 7, nothing special..bangle needs to come bck
X6 lowered version….ugly at first sight, eye sores…we'll swallow the design slowly than it would be more eye pleasing..Conservative m'sian (where most of us are) can't accept this kinda design for a large hatchback…but the europeans may be..
do they realy need to produce tis
well, i personally quite like this 'thing'…the front styling is just perfect!..the back is a bit non-BMW but just like the X6 or even our very own Gen2..people will accept it eventually..by the way, automabile designing definitely needs more 'new and fresh' elements…isn't this new and breathtaking enough?…after all, i still like this 'thing' a lot….haha
the front look a bit like…angry pig.
it's a car for function rather than design .
the problem is that it looks weird and odd, really odd .
if you see properly into the rear 3/4 it is too heavy looking . they should style it like the X6 .
maybe the real car might looks better…sometimes those car designer vision is way beyond our eyes.. i still remember when first Honda CITY comes out..damn weired the design.. but then slowly..we already step into a new era which all sedan boot are rise up , no more straight line like proton Wira type '90 car…
aiyoh.. even vios looks better than this.. this is not BMW..
if ur 'Golf'er…buy this car! it is not for real man thing…
Aside from the big nose, the rest is ok
E60 looks better than dis…
when i 1st saw the current 5 series in 2004…i was stunned…now the looks is ridiculous…seriously wats happening..whats with the rear profile…interior also seems like a facelift…
like or loath design, sorry, dislike. Sedan should look great base on these pictures here, just wonder how is BMW going to differentiate this from regular 5 wagon.
Frankly the front profile looks like a wildhog. Put two 'tusks' on the bumper, and there you have it, Wildhog on wheels.
I don't prefer the design language that BMW is heading. The front design of the 7-series is a let-down.
Its a matter of personal taste. Since Bangle left, all doesn't seem so right with BMW's new releases.

This appears to be one of the last designs Chris Bangle approved.
Chris Bangle didn't actually design any of the production BMWs.
No they did not stop with the X6 did they? The design philosophy of mocking every non American is now flowing into the 5! The first sedan to have a tailgate. You'd think with Bangle gone, there would be some semblance of art left in the company. BMW doing a Toyota.
This tall MPV-ish 5-series GT is not for everyone, just wait for the standard 4-door 5-series sedan, i'm sure that one will look much better.
Paul, new Captiva 2009 just launched. Can do a road test and give your honest comments?
