Volkswagen introduces Golf STYLE and Polo STYLE editions

Volkswagen is now offering an optional “STYLE” package for the Golf, Golf Plus and Polo which consists of small aesthetic enhancements like new alloy wheels, fog lamps, tinted side and rear windows as well as STYLE badging. A winter package and convenience package are also part of the kit.

A STYLE-Plus package adds a sunroof or panorama roof, and a different set of alloy wheels. The photos here depict fashion designer/photographer Karl Lagerfeld posing with the cars, but he didn’t have any hand in styling the STYLE packages.

Oh, and the STYLE versions are also accompanied by new, distinct exterior shades – the Golf and Golf Plus come in a shade called Moonlight Blue Pearl effect, while the Polo is available in Toffee Brown Metallic.

That means each golfs and polos on the road are unique and customized accordingly to the owner’s taste and requirement unlike the boring japanese cars…

Well well, I guess somebody haven’t heard of “Modellista” nor “Kenstyle”. Not forgetting the breath-taking “SARD” and jaw-dropping “VeilSide”. Now now, who said Japanese cars are boring? =p

    • This hasn’t anything to do with ‘boring japanese cars’.

According to japanese tradition, you will get a car in 3,4, or 5 configurations. This makes the mass production simple (cheap) and the car reliable.

In Europe it’s a tradition that you could order i.e. a “custom made” Golf directly from VW. You can select between Petrol or Diesel, engines between 102hp to 270hp, four-wheel-drive or not, ‘blue-motion’ or not, ‘Bi-Fuel’ (petrol-lpg) or not, 44 (!) diffenerent colour tones, 7 different seat colours, leather or not., etc. etc.

Of course, this makes the car more expensive. Just think about the logistics necessary to offer a car in 44 different colours.

On the other hand, this is the reason why the Golf is driven in Europe by students and operators and at the same time by business owners, TV-actors and managers…. ;)

Most car manufacturers offer option packs for new cars. Something you can try yourself at any of the American and European car websites. Even the choices you get for a Japanese domestic market car is vast…..don’t like the standard fair items, there are always tuner manufacturers (Brabus, Alpina, ABT and the host of other japanese tuner shops already mentioned) that will gladly sell you anything you would pay for with full warranty.

Its not rare to see a potential buyer choose from up to 5-7 different engines, multitude of interior material and colours, sunroof, power options, audio options, wheels. etc…

The only limiting factor is usually the paint choice, where it is difficult to run too many paint colours. You only get to choose to up to 7 or 8 colours.

The more expensive the car is, the more things you get to customize.

I think you are horse blinding yourself. In Malaysia where we have a small market, where choices are limited to only several trim options, since the manufactuer (or importers) can ill afford carrying too many SKUs.

But if you have the money, no one is stopping you to import a custom built car, be it Japanese, European or otherwise..

Besides, given the lack of competition, why would our local (CKD) offerings deviate too far from standard? people will buy thier cars anyway. But as more and more competition sets in, consumers will get more and more choices.

Remember once not long ago, you might not even get to choose what colour your Wira came in? (well you can, but you have to wait 1 year to get it).

That first photo’s framing, angle, and pose is ridiculously awkward. Karl looks like he’s about to drop the camera.

When you put the polo and golf side by side like this, you truly begin to notice just how similar they are. And now with the styling package, polo looks less budget, more Volks.

  • I love those colors. This is a good move for those wanting to buy a Polo since they’re much cheaper anyway.
