Next generation Kia Rio to be unveiled at Geneva

These set of sketches are a teaser for the upcoming next generation Kia Rio, set to be launched at the 2011 Geneva International Motor Show.

Next generation Kia Rio to be unveiled at Geneva

The new Rio is longer, lower and wider than the existing Rio. Wheelbase has probably been increased as well, though it will probably not l be increased to as much as 2,615mm which is the wheelbase of the B-segment Kia Venga’s platform. The current generation Rio has a 2,500mm wheelbase.

Being in the B-segment, the Rio will compete against cars like the Volkswagen Polo, the Opel Corsa and the Ford Fiesta in Europe.

The wheelbase should be the same as the latest Hyundai Verna/Accent/Solaris, which is 2570mm… Most of the parts in Kia Rio should be identical to the Accent’s…

    • Yes, it is identical to Hyundai model, but i think of veloster 2649mm wheelbase.

the hyundai-kia really having a good move, when P1, P2 and other “nation car maker” can on par on it???

      Stupid!
Their design is good because they have the best designer in this world!
That guy was with Audi before, imagine KIA without him as chief designer, they would eventually end up like Toyota.
Why would you compare Proton and Perodua with KIA,why can you just compare KIA with Toyota or Honda or even Volkswagen which are their real competitor!
Everything also wanna bash Proton and Perodua, get a life, you lifeless basher.
I’m not a hardcore die hard fan of Proton or even Perodua, but you’re simply useless basher.

yeah true. if it is not the peter schreyer come to kia. kia would never hv a good design. kia cars r designed by a germany, not by a korean. what a disgrace for a nation that hv 50 million ppl but still depend on a germany for design a car. it is same with the indonesia football team where they still use a player from uruguay even tough their population r exceeding 230 million…

Well if you can’t do the job up to the mark and cost effectively step aside and let someone else who can do it. That’s the lesson that they have learnt…..

That’s quite true. But would you rather be proud of something good/great or just be proud?

        • Malaysia boleh mindset not always equal to efficiency and effectiveness.
Agree with Phillip Zak, if you can’t do it, step aside, let someone more capable get it done perfectly.

SA will let you know Kia is from Korea, but will they mention the name of peter schreyer? Then Who else know he is from Germany!
And what is in your mind? Peter Schreyer disgrace Korea after he make Kia top in its industry?

everyone in the design field know who is peter schreyer n his background lah. even paultan called the kia’s new signature grill as “schreyer grill”..this fella is par with giugiaro lah…no, i never think like that…its just weird to see a nation that full of talent but the company doesn’t want to use it…hmmm…i wonder what the koreans think about….

          Lancelot

you fail to see the point here. Koreans are very smart. When they hire Peter Schreyer, they wanted to bring know-how to korea. Koreans learn fast and always hands on. This is how Koreans transfer technology. Hyundai was a JV with Mitsubishi Japan. Look at how Hyundai over took Mitsubishi in terms of engine development and profitability.

The moral of this is, if you want to be the best, hire and learn from the best. The is no shame to learn from the best even the best is eskimos. If you cant agree on this, then, i dont know what to say anymore…..

      • Fool person only call others ppl “stupid”, i understand that.
Besides, this is a blog that every1 can having open discussion, right?
Furthermore, pls read the statement, which word having bash content?
        I quite confirm u r P1 die hard fan, too sensitive when some1 mention P!.. i forgive u!

Assign right person do the right is a common sense, right?
It seem that u also realise that P! design is low grade compare to Honda, Toyota, VW and Hyundai-Kia, so should be the same for P1 management, and they should do something!

Need to survive in automobil world, P1 need to have competition with all car maker company, where got selective one???
As u mentioned, dont compare with Hyundai-Kia, VW, Honda, Toyota and etc, what else P1 need to compare with? Funny thinking!!!

Its better to use the term ‘STUPID’ rather than BI**H,right?!
I’d rather say that we should compare Proton with other automakers with the same experience which is only 26 years in this industry.Understand,FOOL?!
          If not,then sssssssttttttttfffffffuuuuuuu.

5-10 more years, and with more our tax money, so your kids no money and cannot get gomen loan in university, becos all money spend elsewhere.

so your kids after form 5 go to work as mechanic and repair proton car, good isnt it?

yes there will be even more people complaining about the maintenance cost and reliability. I guess you own one or some friends’. Even the batteries are more expensive that Japs/Local cars. Even the windscreen costs double. I guess it’s double quality yah…. with the inflation setting in, good luck dude.

Hahahaha,….those old kia sucks, but new hyundai/kia all are reliable…thats why for the latest KIA/Hyundai, they can give 5 years warranty….BTW, Kia is giving 7 years warranty in UK nowadays!

      • When any manufacturer come out with a new model, many will praise it and curse the previous model which they highly praised before.

Anyway this Rio is a far cry from the first model brought to Malaysia which resemble more like wagon – underpowered and was a gas guzzler.

Hope it is of a better quality. No point of getting a 5 or 7 years warranty if you need to sent it to the workshop 2-3 times a month.

Makes the old Rio look like a korean car…. get it..?

P1 should employ some Germans and Swedes as well , its time we learn their secrets and sack them later on once we succeed

This is the first Kia that I think I will not fit in. I am 6’4 and my young sons are gonna be taller than me so as MUCH as I LOVE this style and think this design makes the Volkswagon Golf finally look dated I can’t get one.

At least the Kia Forte and Forte Koup I fit front and back!!!!! Getting the Forte this March!
