Renault Megane RS 250 Cup wins “Best Sports and Convertible” and Judges Choice award

Renault Megane RS 250 Cup wins “Best Sports and Convertible” and Judges Choice award

Now, it may just be three months into the game locally, but there’s no denying that the Renault Megane RS 250 Cup has made some serious inroads with the performance car crowd and built up an erstwhile cult following.

Now, it’s winning awards too. The 250 hp and 340 Nm hot hatch has picked up its first local gong, taking the “Best Sports and Convertible” award at the recent CIMB Autoworld COTY awards.

It’s not just the enthusiasts who lick their chops at the sight – and thought – of this one. The judges thought so too, bestowing the Judges Choice Award on the French tyke ahead of 30 other machines.

And it’s easy to see why everyone’s head over heels over this capable canary, really; the 2.0 litre turbo mill on this one gets the RS 250 Cup into the century from standstill in just 6.1 seconds and offers the car a 245 kph top speed.

That’s not the only draw, of course. With a Cup chassis that features a 10 mm lowered ride, uprated springs, dampers and anti-roll bars, as well as a veritable list of flash and whizz items on the kit list (Recaro seats, four-piston Brembo brakes, a mechanical LSD, RS Performance Hub and a short shift six-speed manual transmission, among a host of things), the RM230,000 pocket rocket is certainly not short of flash, as well as dash.

With the only setback being that there isn’t enough cars to go around to satiate the hungry hordes, you can expect the Megane RS 250 Cup to pick up more glittering prizes as it goes along.

  • It may sounds good for the renault but the recent launch of the mazda 3 mps at rm175k is much value for money and go as fast as the renault and with bigger torque.

Although renault 250rs are much better equip and handles superbly, i am sure there are many who prefer the mazda softer suspension for everyday usage and easier to live with (4 doors as compared to 2 doors).

Can’t deny the resales value in Malaysia where renault are not well accepted in the used market.

It will be good to see how many renault is going to sell as compared to Mazda 3 MPS.

bro, drived the mps, its all about straight line speed. mps corners like a myvi with adjustable suspensions. but watever it is. its still bloody worth for a car like tat. nearest competitor.. gti? cooperS?

    • No doubt that Berjaya have brought in the 3 MPS at an attractive price. But virtually every review you read gives this car a lukewarm rating, because of it’s hard ride and mediocre handling due to torque steer. Mazda tried to keep the car competitive by endowing it with lots of power, but what’s the use if the chassis or suspension can’t handle it?

For my money, if I were looking for a four door hot hatch, I’d rather add a little more and get a GTI.

With Reza receiving the prize, i dont foresee the credibility of the award and Malaysian criteria & standard.

However, set aside local scene, Renault Megane RS 250 Cup is an icon that not to be ignored and is really a car with a different exprience. Do hop in one if got a chance.

Yeah baby … i’ve booked mine yellow in colour at Renault PJ … hopefully end of March or early April can get this bombshell … test drove the car twice over the last 1 week … smitten to the limit hehe ….suspension comfort is surprisingly better than my current Grandis which does not absorb road imperfections as well as the Renault

Sure, a second-hand Renault will be dirt-cheap but repair costs of this trouble-plagued French car will kill you.

  • The RS 250 is an awesome car, iconic even.

but, one have to say that this isnt news? It has been at least a month since the “awards” were given out.

I say “awards” because what award has a Myvi win in 2 categories?

Of course the RS250 is by a panel of judges but thats the only one.
