Audi A3 MPV by Theophilus Chin

Audi is preparing an MPV derivative of the A3 Sportback that will sit on a longer version of the VW Group’s MQB platform, reports Auto Express. The British publication adds that a concept may surface next year.

The Ingolstadt-based firm had previously considered basing the MPV on the Audi A4 to result in a seven-seater vehicle, but has since decided a smaller five-seater would be more preferable. The compact exec, meanwhile, may spawn a hatchback variant called the A4 Vario to take on the BMW 3 Series GT.

If it happens, the Audi A3 MPV will have a wheelbase of about 2.78 metres – 200 mm longer than the A3 Sportback‘s. Direct rivals should include the Mercedes-Benz B-Class and the production version of the BMW Concept Active Tourer.

In rapid response to this piece of news, Theophilus Chin has served up a rendering on his website to help us visualise an Audi A3 people-carrier – he hopes “the actual MPV will be more stylish than (this).” What do you think?
