It looks like the second-gen Peugeot 308 won’t be debuting in Frankfurt alone – the first images and details of a hot Peugeot 308 R concept have emerged ahead of its debut in Frankfurt.

Resplendent in a head-turning two-tone red and black dress, the Peugeot 308 R concept sits 26 mm lower than the base 308, and its track is 30 mm wider as well.

The car sports a bodykit comprising side skirts and bigger bumpers that boast massive and densely-slatted air intakes. The front grille gets a unique treatment that sort of makes it look like a chequered flag, the bonnet gets twin louvres and the side mirrors are sharper-ended.

Special bodywork components help distinguish the 308 R Concept from the normal 308 – made of carbon-fibre, the doors, front wings, the body sides and sills, bonnet and bumpers are secured to the metal structure, which retains only the roof and tailgate of the original.

Huge 19-inch five twin-spoke alloys – wrapped with 235/35 tyres – are crammed into the wheel arches, and braking system components include four-piston calipers and Alcon discs (380 mm front, 330 mm rear).

Look round the back and you’ll find slim twin tailpipes that sit flush with the bumper. You’ll also see a roof spoiler that’s recessed in the middle. Blink and you’ll miss a tiny ‘R’ badge just ahead of the front doors.

The 308 R features the same 1.6 litre EP6CDTR THP engine found in the Peugeot RCZ R, with output numbers being 270 hp at 6,000 rpm and 330 Nm of torque between 1,900 and 5,500 rpm. The power is deployed to the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox, with a Torsen differential in attendance.

A sign of things to come from the French carmaker’s newest C-segmenter? Mais oui!
