Just over four more days before the 20th edition of the FIFA World Cup kicks off, and Kia has come up with some pre-competition hype for the tournament, especially for US viewers. Football may be the greatest game on the planet and adored by billions, but it remains very much a fringe sport in North America, where it’s given the second-rate tag of soccer.
Kia has drummed up three commercials in an attempt to change that, or at least get people going on ‘futbol’ for the duration of the WC month, with the help of Brazilian model Adriana Lima. The 2015 Kia Optima and Sorento make guest appearances, of course.
Doubt that anything’s really going to change or get viewership levels in the US to spike, despite the attempts. But it’s a good try, in any case.

Hi Anthony,
Just a quick note for you – Soccer is NOT a “second rate tag” as you delightfully describe it as.
Soccer as a name is as old as the Beautiful Game itself and was coined in the UK, where it is still universally used, to differentiate Association Football from Rugby Football.
Kind regards,
Andrew.
That’s what America would say. The rest of the world would not agree.
Thus, we call ‘American Football’ handegg.
When she come to malaysia and educate us on futball?
Mabe come to my house personally and teach me how to play ball.

I was just thinking… if the American Football players were Malaysian instead of American, the conversation may have been:
Adriana Lima: In my country, this is football
Team: Well, go back to your country.
LOL!… Just some light hearted Malaysian humour :p
